  • No mistakes in the steps and lots of pictures
I tried samples of a couple different books. One had missing steps in the instructions for the very first bracelet. It was maddening. And other books skimped on pictures and had poorly written steps. This book (Totally Awesome Rubber Band Jewelry...) has had no mistakes in the steps for the bracelets (I haven't tried the non-bracelet items yet). I made every bracelet in one night. The designs are great, and pretty, and for each pattern, they present you with three color schemes, which make the bracelets with the same pattern look very different. What I like best is the color-coded diagram for each of the three color schemes for each of the designs. These diagrams help you "cast on" the elastics really quickly and accurately. The steps were written well, and used consistent phrasing. Plus, there were plenty of pictures, making it easy to spot where I went wrong if I made a mistake. Also, some bracelets had mini-diagrams to summarize a set of steps that get repeated. The only con is that the sample of the book that you can download (on Kindle) doesn't even get to the first pattern--you only get to see the preliminary material, which is very useful, but doesn't allow people to try out making a bracelet. ... show more

  • Good book for kids with easy to follow step by step instructions
I got this book for my 7 year old who has jumped aboard the speeding Rainbow loom train. I was tired of having to hand over my laptop to constantly look up You Tube videos on how to make these bracelets and wanted him to have a instructions on paper he can refer to when he wanted to. We are very happy with it - it has some different basic bracelets, fishtail, starburst, triple band bracelet. It also has some accessories (charm, earrings, belt). The book is bright with step by step instructions and photos which is very helpful Definitely worth it for any rainbow loom fan! ... show more

  • Helpful book for the beginner
This was a pretty good book for beginners. It might appeal much more to a girl than a boy as far as design - some are more girly and feminine in style, but there are several that boys would like. My 3 boys learned a couple of new designs they hadn't learned from the kids at school already. It shows all the basics, plus some unique patterns, how to use the loom, etc. Like I said, great for beginners - not sure how much more detailed or complicated band jewelry could get, so it's probably most of what you'd need to know while learning, then you can improvise and use your imagination to build on what you learn in this book - that's what my kids are doing now. I got one for my boys, and another for my 12 year old niece - she loved it too. ... show more

  • OK for kids just getting into the different looms and rubber band craze
My 11 year old daughter loves this as much as she does the duct tape craze. There are many different brands of the looms, not too expensive. It's buying all the rubber bands and charms and new stuff coming out all the time that cost you. You can get great prices, especially when you can buy in bulk. But the charms don't come in bulk and read the reviews on all of the accessories because there are many complaints about the quality-some of the rubber bands get complaints about breaking easily, the charms are often so cheaply made that they won't stay on etc. Just do your research and keep an eye out for sales at craft stores and online. I'm amazed at many of the things my daughter has made just using her own imagination. She has surpassed the need for this book so I am on the lookout for one that has more idea's and more difficult. When she has sleepovers and they start doing these, we don't even know we have any kids in the house because they will spend hours making things. One of them, the girls spent two hours or so and each of them made 12' jump ropes, which became many other things, including an "alarm system"for one thing. I love how they are having fun but are learning how to make their creations work since they aren't following a step by step guide. Even my husband gets involved because he's an engineer at heart and loves to be asked for help sometimes. Then my cats and I get to enjoy some quiet time. She doesn't even use the loom anymore and learned a way to use two pencils and it gives the bracelets and everything else a completely different look. Definitely a great buy for girls or boys who like making things. Yes, they have rubber bands in boy colors and prints as well. Both can make more delicate things and most of the boy items they show are wider, heavier duty looking. Like bracelets but they can use the right colors and it looks like a tire. ... show more

  • Fun bracelets
This book has fun bracelets to make with lots of step by step pictures and instructions. Some bracelets are complicated so I still need to read it to help my daughter, age 9, make the more difficult bracelets. One word of warning-we bought the rainbow loom, and it is backwards from the instructions in the book so after a couple confusing hours of following instructions and not understanding why they weren't working, we figured out how to use the book with our loom. ... show more

  • Wish we could rate this 10 stars!
We downloaded this book via Kindle so that we can use it on our kindle, ipods, and android phone. By having it always available in our pocket we’ve been able to make hundreds of bracelets with these simple directions, clear photos, and simple diagrams. Prior to using this book, our most complicated bracelets were the fishtail. Now we have amazing starbursts and zippers. The directions are quite clear, but having the clear photos has been quite helpful. Best of all, are the clear diagrams at the end of the sections. This allows us to quickly remember the order of weaving the bands, which is critical for a successful bracelet. We wish all “To Do” books were as clear as this book, Totally Awesome Rubber Band Jewelery. ... show more
