My only issue is that it only is compatible with ps4 games. I had purchased this for the ps5 and all its newer games (they take up a lot of space) but I was still able to put it to use with the handful of ps4 games that are downloaded on the system.

Everything would be perfect if it wouldn't keep disconnecting by itself. I am careful to not move computer or hard drive, but after a bit, it quits saving and saying not available.

By default, PS5 doesn’t allow PS5 games to be played from hard drives, but will store and play PS4 games from the drive. You have to copy PS5 games over again if you store them, but it’s much faster than deleting and redownloading. This hard drive was ideal for this. All of my games play well from the drive and the move times were not terrible at all. You do have to plug it into the back of the PS5 for the correct USB power to be used, so there could be a space issue for you if you were hoping to use the front spot. All in all, it’s a compact 4TB drive and 200GB copied over in less than a half hour and now I can get a good library going. Ideal drive for PS5! ... show more

Over the years, I've owned four of these Toshiba Canvio drives (two 2 TB and two 4 TB). The drives all immediately mounted on my Windows devices without any difficulty. With a little trickery, I was able to read the NTFS formatted drives on my Chromebook as well. The build quality are decent for the price, and the cables was actually a little nicer than expected, but these definitely weren't built for ruggedness - transport with care. The enclosure seemed to mitigate heat well, as I never noticed any performance degradation during extended use. I've never used the provided software, I generally use Retrospect Solo and Perfect Backup for most jobs, and manually copy files on occasion using TerraCopy. Transfer speeds were about average for a value-priced 5400 RPM drives in their class, but slower than the numbers provided by Toshiba on the Canvio marketing. Multiple small files were near their bottom projection, but - even under ideal circumstances - I couldn't hit their benchmarks for large reads or writes. I'm still okay with it, as it's what I expected, but I have to criticize them listing inaccurate data. Additionally, I have had half of these drives fail in under 4 years (the two older 2 TB drives). In fairness, both of the drives that failed were running almost 20k hours (about 2.3 years), so I'm not too disappointed. Using S.M.A.R.T. checks, I can see the other two drives may fail well before that, but I feel I still got fair longevity for a value-priced HDD. Given the caveats, I'm still fairly pleased with these drives. I use the two remaining 4TB drives as external backups to my external backup drives, which I store off-site for added redundancy (in addition to tapes). Since they spend most of their time in safes, I expect them to last much longer. From this point (mid 2023) forward, I'll probably start switching to durable SSDs once these HDDs are decommissioned. With SSD prices continually dropping, it's harder to recommend 5400 RPM HDDs unless you can catch them on sale. ... show more
