Description

With the se-77 square edge Jig, it is easy to sharpen your wood chisels and plane irons into a square corner. The design gives you the best conditions for a successful sharpening with the highest precision over the final result. You can also set the Jig for a slightly convex shape. The se-77 square edge Jig is an enhancement of the se‑76 Jig. It contains an adjustable side that can be set with the help of two smaller knobs, which allows fine tuning if needed. This can be required if the tool is not exactly square to the Stone, is very narrow or if the steel is slightly twisted. The setting for fine adjustment is done in seconds by loosening one of the smaller adjustment knobs and tightening the other. The jig's construction also makes it possible to position and sharpen tapered chisels, e. G. Japanese chisels. The safety stops keep the Jig securely on the Universal support and prevent the tool from sliding off the grindstone, so there is No Risk that you will hurt your fingers when sharpening. The Jig fits wood chisels and plane irons up to 77 mm (3") width.

  • Works on my Wen
Works on my bidirectional Wen 10 as well as it did on my old Tormek 10. I sharpen plane blades and chisels. The Wen is pretty good, btw.

  • Don't throw good money after bad.
Over all I gave this jig a 2. It gets one extra star simply it was head and shoulders better than the original. I have and older Super Grind 2000 so this might not apply to a newer machine. It is worth noting that I poured through the questions and confirmed this would work on my machine. 1st off this jig comes with 2 positive stops that attach to the universal support, a feature I liked a lot. One screwes into the end of the universal support and the other is a collar and set screw that slides on to the support. Neither work as it comes. I had to drill and tap a M6 X 1.0 hole in the end of the support which became problematic later. Mind you I am a retired machine shop owner and have a manual machine shop in my garage. The bottom of the jig has a radius cast into it . This provides clearance for the collar. The problem with the old jig was you could not get a square grind to save your life. This jig has an adjuster to compensate for this issue and it is extremely difficult to get it adjusted square. Let me say that again, it is extremely difficult to get it adjusted square. When you do make an adjustment, the radius in the fixtuer no longer clears the collar so I had to grind a good portion of the collar off. Once that issue was resolved i discovered that the material the support is made out of is extremely soft. So soft that drilling and tapping the end caused it to mushrom .004" to .005" causing the jig to jump at the end of the stroke. This was resolved with 400 grit sand paper. Over all this was par for the Tormek course. I know a number of woodworkers that went to a trade show and like me, got sucked in by the Tormek carnies hocking these machines. Most had the good sense to unload them shortly their after but not me. I keep going back to the well every couple of years just to confirm how much I dislike it. ... show more

  • Finally! A nearly perfect Square Edge Jig!
Awesome. I can now repeatably grind a perfect camber in my plane irons. It also does a great job of adjusting for a straight and square grind. This jig has been a long time coming in my opinion. Because the Tormek system is so nearly perfect and so well made. The original Square Edge Jig did not reliable produce a perfect square edge. I always had to fiddle with mine to get perfect square. This jig makes any slight correction very easily and on the fly (...almost- turn off the machine while adjusting I suppose) And although Tormek doesn’t make a big deal about it- it will grind a camber if you loosen the thumb knobs about a half turn each for most smoothers. Nothing else on the market will do that - at least not that I’m aware of. You’ll love it. ... show more

  • so much better than stamped holders
Got this to replace the stamped holder on my Bucktool wet sharpener which I had to square up. The Tormek is pricey but I am glad I indulged myself

  • Complicated but very sturdy. Follow the instructions.
This is a complicated item, but for a good reason. THere are two adjusting knobs on the far end that allow you to fine tune the squareness at which your chisel, etc is held in the tool. They also, if both loosened a bit, allow you to grind a slight crown in the tip of the tool (Some plane users prefer this). I made the mistake of playing with them and then not checking I put them back right\...MISTAKE! but my fault. If you play with these, make sure to take special care to return them to square. PLease read the instructions. NEVERTHELESS, a great tool that helped me make fairly quiclk reshaping of tool edges with out the halfhazard and sloppy work I was doing freehand before. For me it's worth the farily steep price. ... show more

  • Great replacement
I have a Grizzly Sharpening Machine which is MUCH less expensive than the Tormek. With good reason, too. The holder for the chisels and plane blades is just about worthless. BUT the Tormek replacement is awesome. Apparently all the Tormek attachments work on the Grizzly machine. Highly recommended!

  • Love the Tormek Quality
Great sharpener. I love this Tormek it is great quality. I bought some wen accessories and what a waste their fit and finish is cheap and I had to redrill hole to use some of the accessories. Only buy the Tormek accessories. Buy once cry one.
