Tried a “A/B” comparison with SMSL DO200 pro, so Cirrus 8 chipper to 12 chipper …. The 8 Cirrus Octo came out on top. Well 200$ more the Octo should be better. Further DAC a-b latter this week with Gustard r26, and ah90, smsl su10 …. May the best DAc win!

I have an audio equipment business, and buy $7k a month. A side benefit is being able to do volume matched testing of many products at the same time. I've had most of what's on the market several times including the Octo and every other E70. The display on my A70Pro looks impressive, but it doesn't sound any better than the E70 9028Pro version. If you don't need the connectivity, or the wow factor of the spectrum analyzer or VU meter, save money and get the E70 9028Pro. For my personal daily driver DAC, I only use ones with USB C since you can plug an optical USB cable directly into it. The noise floor is so quiet, even more than using a USB C hub (tried that too, not as good). The Octo has all the performance you could want, as long as budget allows. The velvet E70 sounded like it had a few ms delay (like a soundstage effect) and the Sabre is very good, just only if you get it on sale). If you have visitors often, the Octo/A70Pro with one on Vu meter and the other on spectrum analyzer will blow their minds even before they hear it. Also the double RCA/XLR plugs on the back are really handy if you change components often. No more adapters needed. If budget allows, go for it. If you want the same sound at significant saving, the E70 9028Pro is my personal preference. ... show more
