While I haven't used it for it's intended purpose just yet (getting kayaks on top of our Subaru) because the weather isn't quite there yet, I have gotten up on it to test it. And it works great! It's definitely easy to install on the door latch, with the added benefit of being adjustable to different angles of door sides. It's solidly in place in either position--I use one position for the front door and the other for the rear. I read one reviewer say that the width of the hook that attaches to the door latch is a little narrow compared to the space inside the latch, to the point of making the step a bit unstable, and I get whet he's saying. Once you get up on the step, you'll want to plant your feet in one solid position and keep them there while doing your on-roof stuff. I wouldn't rock your feet forward and back while standing on the step. I don't think there's any danger of the step coming off, but you might slip. That said, while on the step with both feet trying it out and reaching across the entirety of my car's roof, I felt perfectly safe. Also, the cushy rubber part is large enough not to put pressure on the door jamb and dent it, and the fact that it rotates to fit firmly in place is reassuring. Overall, this an excellent product design that improves on the one that is more prevalent on Amazon (all variations on the Rightline Gear Moki Door Step). It would be even better if the hook that attaches to the latch were a bit wider to prevent any side-to-side play, but as it is, it's still very good. Definitely recommended! ... show more

This works very well for the driver and passenger front doors on my Town&Country van. But, not on the sliding side door latches. Those latches are angled outwards and causes the step to swing out away from the door frame and can detach itself and cause a fall.

What I like is that this step adjusts to two different angles, making it fit the rear door catch of my 2024 Crosstrek at the right angle for standing up and lashing kayaks to my roof rack. The wide triangluar dual blocks spread the load across more metal and at a distance from the fulcrum to where it doesn't damage the door frame. Item is very strong make sure the height of the latch you want to use isn't too high to step onto. On jeep cherokee it works best on front door latch which puts you forward of luggage rack bur still with in reach however.
