  • Pocket Torch
Color: BSS V4 -Desert Tan
This is hands down the best pocket sized light that I have ever bought. It is insanely bright and luckily it has other modes to adjust the brightness. I mainly use this light in construction and either keep it in my pocket of my pant or one of the pockets of my safety vest. The battery lasts surprisingly long, but does take a little longer to recharge than some other flashlights. I have enjoyed and used this light so much that I now have three of them, and all three work flawlessly still. My only two gripes about this light is that it gets super hot when the brightest setting is on for a while, and that there is no ability to zoom or focus the beam, I really like this feature on other lights and if this one had that feature as well it would be unbeatable. Definitely worth buying one, maybe even two or there ... show more

  • Great Light, Great Value-Self Defense Light
Color: BSS V4 -Camo
The max lumens and throw on this is everything any self defender or LEO could want, and it's half the price of the most popular brands. Thrunight and BSS really hit it out of the park with this. DON'T spend a couple hundred on some other handheld light. This is the one you want. Side note, mine turned itself one twice while I was messing with the clip on the first day. The buttons wouldn't turn it off, but it's an easy fix. Just unscrew the tail cap and screw it back on. No problems since. ... show more

  • Too Complicated to Use
Color: Bss V5 - Black
This flashlight is too darn complicated to use. I can't remember all the different patterns to click in order to get the light in various modes, including a basic on/off mode. I should have returned it, but I had such hope it would work out. The light itself is intensely bright to very dim. It would be great for use outdoors or for a safety and defense light in various situations. The light can be blinding, and the one tip has sharp edges as a defense tool. It is rather useless if I need to re3ad the instructions every time I want to use it. I do have a disability, but I can drive a car, and so I should be able to use a flashlight. ... show more

  • Fantastic Torch
Color: Bss V5 - Black
First off... a word to the wise.. @TSA is an envious bunch and will take your light if configured with the DNA catching bezel as some may declare it a weapon.. personal knowledge with an over zealous prick in Reno who would not invoke his discretion but made a declaration of "Tactical is a weapon". Unfortunately, I didn't have time to banter with them as my due to other delays. Ergo the new light. The new version has an updated USB C charger and the functionality is as always, FANTASTIC!! Great choice by BlackScout for this gear. I'll pick up another in the near future. I've pulled the DNA catcher as this will go back in my flying carry on bag.. You can't fix stupid and ut will present itself at the least opportune moments. Thanks Jack!!! Great upgrades and a great light. #GYSOT ... show more

  • EDC for work
Color: BSS V4 -Desert Tan
I really like this flashlight. I use it 4-5 days per week, for unarmed security work. I like that the cap button gives you instant access to the brightest beam, without having to click through half a dozen options. If you need brightness in a hurry, just click! The other options being available with the side button, three fast clicks for strobe, a couple of low power settings for map reading, and regular "high" mode. The finish is coming off a bit after 3 months of wear, but I don't care about that. I had to loctite the toothy bezel in place as it kept unscrewing itself, and I had to chase it across a parking lot once. I use the light regularly though out my 10+ hour night shifts but I don't really know Exactly how long the light is actually on. I rarely use it for more than a few minutes at a time, but I use it a lot. Regardless, the battery has never died on me before I could recharge it. The body gets hot Very quickly at full power. Nice in cold weather, but it limits the usefulness of turbo mode since if it overheats it will throttle the power down to regular high mode. All in all, for the price it's durable, I love not having to purchase batteries weekly, and it's very bright. If I lose mine, I'll order another just like it immediately. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • The good, the bad, and the ugly
Color: Bss V5 - Black
I've carried an earlier ThruNite flashlight for years and wanted to upgrade, so I purchased the BSS V5. Let's start with the good. First, it is quite bright in turbo mode. The crenelated bezel can be easily removed, which I did as I have no desire for the crenelations. The tailcap switch works well and the flashlight can stand on its tail, so it can be used to light up a room. The charging port has been changed to a USBc, which is a much more common type of cord than on one of my previous ThruNite flashlights. Now for the bad. The flashlight body heats up very quickly in turbo mode. The side switch is very low profile, so low that it is hard to find it by feel in the dark, making it hard to use. Finally for the ugly. The two-way pocket clip is a snag waiting to happen. It increases the profile of the clip, making it easier to be seen. It is just a really, really stupid idea. And it is rather pointless as the clip could just be installed reversed, at the other end of the flashlight body anyways. Fortunately, I was able to use a single-way pocket clip from a different ThruNite flashlight. The operating system of my previous ThruNite flashlight was dead simple -- turn on via the tail cap and the side switch cycled through the various power levels. The operating system of the BSS V5 is completely incomprehensible. It has not one, but two lockout modes and there is no way I can remember how to get into the them or how to get out. It is all so completely unnecessary. All in all, I will use the BSS V5, but I am dismayed by these unnecessary errors. They made some bad design choices by adding unnecessary complications that make the user experience worse. You shouldn't have to periodically reread the manual in order to remember how to operate a flashlight. In the case of the flashlight operating system and the pocket clip, ThruNite would have been far better off by following the aphorism that simpler is better. ... show more
