  • Overall Nice Boot
After a decade + of Redwings it was time to buy a boot more easily traced as USA/ Union made and assembled as Redwing seems to be going the way of the "American" auto manufacturers. The Flyway series plays to rave comfort reviews among other things and to start the comfort out of the box is second to none. It is easily one of the most comfortable, no break in boots I've put on. I have a 10 "D" or medium width foot. The fit is true and I've been cycling between a heavier weight and medium weight sock to nail down the perfect feel. Both are comfortable. Cushioning and comfort walking on rock and concrete is excellent. Climbing up and down ladders and walking on slick surfaces creates no problems for the outsole. It is too early to tell how the durability will rate but it does seem the softer leather will be prone to damage sooner than a stiff leather Redwing type boot. Water proofing is perfection. Accidentally put my foot in a puddle nearly up to my knee and everything from my knee to the top of the boot was saturated. Top of the boot down was dry. Right off the bat the only thing I would change and did change were the original laces. They are just not good. Get something tougher that locks and holds the boot together better when you tie it. I found a replacement pair of redwing laces from an 8" boot that work perfectly and get the boot to the snug feel I was looking for. All told, this is a great product right out of the box and I hope they last. ... show more

  • Wear them right out of the box!
I love boots. I own Redwing, Danner, Lowa, Asolo, and Kodiak. Break in wasn't necessary for the Flyways, the foot bed is comfortable, the leather is soft, and the boots are quite cozy. They're a decent sized boot, 8' with rubber lugs so I wouldn't suggest long distance hiking, but I've worn them to work many times with khaki style pants and I have no complaints. Keep in mind that the waterproof lining does 2 things that I have noticed 1) Can provide a warmer experience do to less breathability, 2) Makes for a "fuller" looking boot because of the additional material involved. As mentioned, the leather is soft and really looked fresh right out of the box. The height of the boot was a plus for me, 6" boots can dig into my achilles sometimes. They are a very attractive boot and I look forward to having these for many years. ... show more

  • Best work boots!
Yes these boots are a little pricey, but they will outlast most if not all other brands off boots. Not only do they feel great on your feet but they look good as well! Best quality of leather you can buy!

  • Great looking boots but not for me
These would probably be nice for Northern winters. They are too hot for Southern states. They have too much padding which makes it seem like it will take forever to break in unlike my other Thorogood boots. Laces are too thick for some reason and fall out of the hooks and I couldn't lace them up tight. Beautiful looking boots just boy for me. ... show more

  • Great boots!!
A bit too tight on the arch at beginning. Had to remove the insoles for a few days until they loosened up. (Gotta break them first tho) After that perfect fit and super comfortable My 3rd pair. And planning to get more. Last pair lasted 3+ years of every day abuse.

  • Durability
I bought a pair for my husband for a pair of good work boots 2 1/2 years ago and I just bought him another pair for Christmas this year! He works in excavation and in machines as well as out of the machines working. Most boots would end up hurting his feet when they started wearing down. These boots he loves!!! His first pair i bought he literally wore them out. We considered getting the soles replaces and an eyelet replaced because he loved them so much. I went ahead and got him a new pair for Christmas. These boots are stiff so they do need to be broken in. My husband uses leather conditioner, cleaner, and I forgot the other thing and let's the outside sit overnight and then starts breaking them in by wearing them every day to work. They support his ankles and when they get too muddy and dirty he cleans them if with water. (Not saturated or dipped in water) then uses cleaner and conditions them again. They look brand new. I know it's a lot of money but to help his feet with the walking and what his job is required it is worth the money!!! ... show more

  • Quality Boot!
This is a very well built boot. It is tight fitting at first, but breaks in relatively quick for a quality boot. Tight across instep until you break in. Once broken in, they really form to your foot and are almost like wearing tennis shoes. I wear a 10 or 10.5 in boots and shoes. Went with a 10 on these based on reviews and they fit great. ... show more

  • Comfortable, Well made
Comfortable well made boot. I've read reviews of the tongue hurting peoples leg. The left boot tongue did hurt my high ankle bone for about the first 3 or 4 days. I just kept that boot loose for a few days. After that it loosened up and the boot is perfect.
