I don't know what the difference is between these little Thomas Engines. But this little Diesel engine has a really strong motor (same batteries). It seems to run faster and pull more rolling stock than the average Thomas engine that comes with the pre-made sets. Very cool looking too.

This Salty train is great! My son absolutely love all of his motorized trains. They stay on the tracks well as long as he does not lean on or bump the track to much. The train can even jump the track with the tender attached. They really make for lots of fun. We pulled out his tracks for his birthday party and the trains were a hit and the batteries last for a very long time. He even leave them running and they still last. I 100% suggest this toys for 3yo and up! You also have to be mindful of kids with longer hair and the wheels it will get stuck in their head! ... show more

My grandson LOVES Salty! He's 2 and a half and has lots of Thomas TrackMaster trains - Gordon is his favorite. But right away he learned Salty's name and ran around the room saying it several times. These TrackMaster toys are built very well and hold up to a 2 year old's imagination. And the tracks are great because they fit together no matter which set they are from - so we can be very creative. ... show more

We ordered Salty for my son as a reward for good work in school. I was pretty disappointed to open the package and see James instead. Luckily, my son was just as happy to see James & asked to keep him. Otherwise I'd be returning it. Buyer beware, I guess.
