I use this as a seat cushion on my day hikes. Had been using some closed cell foam, but found it a bit bulky. This folds and fits easily in my pack. I only gave it 4 stars because I think it could be a bit thicker. Also I have yet to see how it performs in the winter on frozen surfaces.

I know you can see the weight, but seeing it and then feeling it is two different things. This sitpad is almost not there in terms of weight in the bag. YET, it's soft and cushiony enough to sit on and kneels on in the field. I use this for camping/backpacking, but wish I had it back in the day when I used to climb under cars and peer under bumpers to save my knees. The built in strap to keep it closed is great because it's one less thing to lose and be blamed for losing... it's not my fault that multi-verse portals open up around me and suck in random doodads! This is the forth one that I bought in 5 year-period. I purchased my first one at REI but then they stopped carrying them. I hike a lot and live in the mountains and I was looking for something to sit on during my hikes. After my initial purchase, I bought another one for my dad and then one more for my mom. I also use them for clients as I do guided hiking tours. I literally swear by them!! They are super durable, the first one I purchased 5 years ago is still in good condition and it's been used a ton, multiple times a week. I use them everywhere, rocks, tree logs, wet surfaces after rain and most importantly this is a life safer to sit on in the snow. I hike a lot in the snow in winter times and there is so much snow that everything is covered in several feet of snow. Those mats are perfect for that and will keep you warm and dry. They are more expensive than others but way worth it! They are thicker than most of the other brands on the market. It's the same quality as the bigger mats used for backpacking.
