  • Never Mind the NVG, Pass Me the ESP
The first season was amusing enough but by the fourth series, as is typical with Hollywood TV shows, the writers were all tapped out and had to resort to increasingly banal and unbelievable story lines. Hence the appearance of ESP, and even more cringe-worthy: the "spear that pierced Christ's side" and which miraculously brings one of the team back to life when it's returned to the vicinity of a vanishing (now you see it, now you don't) Spanish mission in Chile. I wish I was inventing this but no, the script writers really lowered their game that much. I don't think shows about special forces are supposed to make people laugh but this season is more (unintentional) comedy than drama. The action sequences seem tired and lacking conviction, the soap opera personal drama elements are just tedious, and the mystic overtones are frankly embarrassing. So if you happened to enjoy Season One, it's probably best to stop watching at the end of Season Three, because Season Four makes it really obvious why there was no Season Five. ... show more

  • This series in patently incredible
I don't watch many "movies" because I am more interested in non-fiction topics. But when I became a premium member and just so happened to have a Roku III, only then did I discover "The Unit." I was amazed that this offering was originally available on regular TV and soon I became a huge fan - and I hate the words "Huge Fan." The cast was absolutely spectacular, and even though this group represented the "best of the best" in military service (and I mean the wives as well as their "warfighters") there were understandable chinks in everyone's armor ("no let's not go to the running car - let's go to the shack with the chainsaws") and no one was a saint in the way they lived their personal lives was probably a mirror to the human condition. While I rate Dennis Haysbert as the best of the best, all of the cast members were incredible. There were some disappointments in that some fantastic cast members were not carried for all 69 episodes, but I realize if you're that good a performer or hostage to logical story changes, there will be other lucrative projects and folk have to "move on" to grow in their careers. So be it, but I will miss this series when it expires after 4 more episodes. As a retired Naval Officer so proud of what our Navy SEALS and the special forces of all of our military forces do to take the fight to the "bad guys" of the world, I highly recommend this series to anyone who is unaware of the truly incredible work that these guys and gals do to keep US out of harm's way and do so under the Radar of public acclaim. David Mamet is to be commended for his efforts in this series. I recommend on Amazon his book: "The Secret Knowledge," published in 2011. It is a book that Victor Davis Hanson has said is "...a moving lyrical good-bye to the contemporary Left in its 'all-too-well-known manifestations' and '...readers will delight in the fascinating ways...'" he documents his case. ... show more

  • Ok Series
This series seemed written for the 1980's mentality, focusing on relationships that were completely macho and strictly heterosexual and 1950's family oriented. The acting was ok to good, but not great, but, unfortunately, the writing was awful! Often the episodes left out so much and ended without a real ending, and for the most part didn't continue the story to the next episode. There were so many holes in the story it was ridiculous. The writers seemed stuck in a mentality of the 1980's. Often the writing was so bad, I couldn't wait for the series to end. However, that's not to say watching the series was a waste of time. It could be quite entertaining at times and you become invested in many of the characters. ... show more

  • Great show - too bad it's gone. Awesome theme music!
An excellent show. It was sort of mucked up a little by the writers, by confusing dramatic plots related to the families, but the parts where the team members are doing their actual jobs was very entertaining. I'd love for this show, or one like it to return - but focus on the missions performed by our SpecOps forces. Perhaps a theme of "JSOC" (Joint Special Operations Command) - where they could include Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force special operators in various missions. And then focus very little on incorporating their families into 'missions', and instead highlight the fear, hardship and pride associated with military families (spouses worrying, children missing parents, team members missing families, excitement when they come home, being able to afford things on low-pay, etc.). Also, someone needs to turn the theme music into a full work. It is really awesome! ... show more
