Description

Liz Keegan's The Sewing Machine Embroiderer's Bible shows how to get the most out of your sewing machine's embroidery function. Here is all the help needed to get the most out of your sewing machine's embroidery functions, including details about the types and formats of available designs, how to get these designs off the internet and onto your machine, how to stabilize your fabric, which threads and needles to use to get the best results, and of course how to use the patterns creatively for stunning results. It also provides guidance for making use of the built-in embroidery stitches that modern sewing machines offer, but which are mostly forgotten about and underused. The focus is non- brand specific, so you can follow along no matter what model you have. A comprehensive section covers the details of editing, organizing, and saving your designs to transferring designs between your computer and sewing machine, downloading from the internet, and much more. Also included are step-by-by step instructions showing how to create a wide variety of embroidery designs from heirloom, free standing, 3D, fancy lettering, trapunto, and everything in between, plus how to use and place your designs exactly where you want them on any project. "Idea Files" provide inspiration with close-up images of the designs used in a variety of ways. With expert advice about what to look for when buying a new machine and a troubleshooting section for solving common mistakes and problems, this guide will help you get the most of out of your modern sewing machine. • Wonderful book!
I bought this book quite some time back (about 2 years) and finally took the time yesterday to sit down and review it. I've had my embroidery machine since just before I purchased this book and because I was so into quilting didn't really take the time to get to know it and sadly, the books that come with the machine are not that helpful. This book has helped me in so many ways and has given me totally new interest in getting to know my machine along with the knowledge needed to start experimenting. I highly recommend this book for anyone getting started with/or needing refreshers in machine embroidery. ... show more

  • Clear, concise & step-by-step instructions
Clear, concise & step-by-step instructions for introduction to the various types of machine embroidery. When I got the book, it was so well organized that I had no difficulty understanding each part, that pointed out in advance how to avoid common pitfalls; such as those that are prevalent among the reviews of the various types of machine embroidery products (machines, thread, stabilizer). Hopefully I won’t make any of those kinds of mistakes, but if I do, I’m sure to find the solution in the pages of instructions and the trouble-shooting guide.A section on regular sewing machine decorative stitching. This book was bought because I am planning to buy a sewing/embroidery machine, but didn’t know which one to buy. I was amazed that it was very, very easy to read, that I really didn’t want to put down. In a story book, you often hear that, but rarely in a DIY, instructional manual. I’m certain the actual machine manual won’t be such a page-turner...but I’ll read it none-the-less. Not reading the manual for your own machine is the first user error cautioned against in the book. Now I have a much better idea of what things cause success and failure, as well as why some features and machines seem much more or less expensive. What I discovered was possibly the most important lessons to success: the low end models all cost about the same, and you get what you pay for. ... show more

  • Really Helpful
I had received the Sewing Machine Accessory Bible for Christmas and then came across this one and knew it would be really helpful. I have sewn a little here and there over the years but never got any real experience. Once I got a sewing machine that was capable of embroidery I was a little out of my wheelhouse. This book has tons of information for the beginner. I am really glad I got this and recommend it to anyone interested in learning machine embroidery. ... show more

  • Excellent basics book!
I loved this book . . .until a relative insisted she HAD to have it so it has been re-gifted! I Already had the essential tools that come with the book & I had read it completely so I wasn't overly upset to give it away. I can always order another one. It is a Basics type book. I had bought it because I hadn't used my Espree machine in years and now I have upgraded to a BL Elissimo Gold. Big difference in machines so I felt I needed to refresh my skills. BTW, I'm NOT showing her my more advanced books! ... show more

  • Didn't work for me, but may work for you
Don't like to give it a poor review. Written instructions don't work well for me. So it's just me. If you are able to work with books of instruction, it's fine.
