Item arrived quickly and in good condition. I received 6 tubes of pre-tubed casings packed in salt. The tubes were sealed in a plastic bag and shipped in a sturdy cardboard box. I removed 1 tube of casing for immediate use and resealed the unused portion in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator for storage. To prepare for use, I gently rinsed the tube of casing to remove as much salt as possible. I then transferred the tube to a small bowl and covered with clean water to soak for at least 1-2 hours. I changed the water 2 times while soaking. Once the casing were fully re-hydrated, I loaded them onto the stuffing tube of my LEM 5lb sausage stuffer. The casings didn't transfer over as smoothly as I would have liked, but once I got the hang of it I was able to slide the entire tube of casing onto the stuffing tube. Per previous reviews, I was expecting each tube of casing to contain at least 4 or more sections of casing in various lengths. To my surprise the tube contained 1 long full-legth continuous casing which made the stuffing very quick. I had 2 blowouts early on due to inexperience with fresh casings, but once I got the hang of it I was able to stuff 7 pounds of sausage in under 15 minutes. I then portioned them by pinching, twisting, looping and braiding into pairs of links. Even with the blowouts and with slightly under filling the casing to be safe, I used about half of the roll and had a lot of casing left over. So I gently removed the unused casing from the stuffing tube, rinsed thoroughly with clean water, gently pat dry with a paper towel, packed them in a ziplock bag with 3-4 tbsp of salt, and put them in my refrigerator for storage. This product comes with 6 pre-tubed rolls of casing and per instructions makes approximately 50lbs of sausage which equates to a little over 8lbs of sausage per tube of casing. I was able to stuff 7lbs of sausage with about half of 1 tube, and that was with a few blowouts and slightly under filling. I expect this entire package of casing to easily make over 50lbs of sausage which makes this an excellent value on top of the convenience of being pre-tubed. Very happy with my purchase and I look forward to trying other types of natural casing such and beef and sheep from this seller. *2/5/2023 Update* - I finally got around to using the rest of the first tube of casing I had left over. I was able to case 9.75lbs of seasoned pork sausage meat. I rinsed off the salt I packed them in and soaked in warm water for an hour before use and they were good to go. I had 3 blowouts, but was able to case all of the seasoned meat with a little extra casing to spare. This time I was able to case really tight, plump, taught sausage and was able to make 40 links. I think overall, one tube can probably case up to 20lbs of seasoned sausage meat. Excellent casings and I'm glad I decided to give these a try. ... show more

    • Lots of pinholes
Update...the other packages were nearly perfect. The first pkg I used must have been an anomaly as the others ave had no holes, had only one break in the shank and performed flawlessly. I will use these again if my local sources are out. The good: Very clean, fairly easy to put on tube and neutral scent, just what you want. The bad: Riddled with pinholes, almost like someone intentionally poked them with an ice pic. Mixed long and really short pieces packaged on same tube, very annoying. I have been making my own sausage since the mid 70's and I understand casing quality varies. I am going back to grocery store or butcher bought casings, they are vastly cheaper and though the quality is hit or miss, the grocery store is mostly hit, these were mostly miss for a whole lot more money. I really wanted these to be better for the convenience, pinholes every foot or so that you don't find until twisting them up will ruin your day. I still have a few packages of these left to use so if the other packages are better I will come back here and say so. I am really disappointed in this package, 20 lbs of buffalo chicken sausage that is full of holes and looks like a pockmarked 15 year old. ... show more

    • Best quality casings
These are the best quality casings I've ever had. There are only 4 of them in the package, but they are very big. Made a batch of 4-5 lbs and used maybe a third of one. Salted and back in a ziplock. Very convenient to put on your stuffing horn

Need I say more. If you make your own sausage, you understand the time it takes to put casings on a tube. These are a huge timesaver, more than advertised, and I promise you will not regret spending a few extra dollars. If you do then honestly take more time learning the process. These are amazing!

    • Look up how, and flush the salt off them without taking them off the straw.
Seem to be good casings, reasonably straight and uniform. Had a couple blowouts, but that's par for the course with natural casings. No complaints.

Don't get me wrong. These are great casings and are easy to use but the box that the bag was in was wet and coated with salt. There looked like there was enough salt left so I immediately put them in the refrigerator. Crossing my fingers.
