I've been curious about Plato so I decided to buy this book. The book is intact though in decent condition (there is slight damage on each corner, which is generally expected, though I expected less of it). Overall, good book.

    • A Great Presentation of a Classic
I really like this translation. I used the translation in my Platonic thought class in undergrad, and it was easier to read than some of the older translations. What I like about this edit in particular is the creative organization. Instead of simply presenting the text like a play, it presents it like a book (with helpful headings and brief introductions). This aids new readers, but also is really helpful when you are looking for that one passage. The standard page numbers are still there (so all is good for us classic readers). My intent is not to bog down the reader with a lot of drivel. This is one of the better copies of the republic I have seen and read. I would have prefered a hardcover version, but at this price it is a steal. There are copious footnotes and references which further assist the reader in deciphering one of the most published and interested philosphical texts ever. As far as the work by Plato, it is one of the single most important books ever written and should be read by every person with an above average IQ and a thirst for knowledge and understanding (which begins with truth, thanks Plato!). ... show more
