Description

From Academy Award®-winning director (1976, Rocky) John G. Avildsen comes the highly entertaining, coming- of-age classic that will leave you cheering! Starring Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat " Morita in his Academy Award®-nominated performance (Best Supporting Actor, 1984) as Mr. Miyagi. There is more to karate than fighting. This is the lesson that Daniel (Macchio), a San Fernando Valley teenager, is about to learn from a most unexpected teacher: Mr.Miyagi (Morita), an elderly handyman who also happens to be a master of the martial arts. So when he rescues Daniel from the Cobra Kai, a vicious gang of karate school bullies, Miyagi instills in his young friend the importance of honor and confidence as well as skills in self- defense, vital lessons that will be called into play when a hopelessly outclassed Daniel faces Johnny, the sadistic leader of the Cobra Kai, in a no- holds-barred karate tournament for the championship of the Valley. • I wish to RE-DO my review from couple days ago....EXCELLENT MOVIE.disc perfect, finally arrived...
I WISH TO APOLOGIZE TO THE SENDER/SELLER , AND RE-WRITE MY REVIEW; I WAS ANGRY 2 OR 3 DAYS AGO WHEN I WROTE AS IT WAS ALMOST ONE MONTH SINCE I HAD BOUGHT AND ORDERED THE 4K OF "KARATE KID 4K". AMAZON SAID THEY WERE GOING TO AND WANTED TO GIVE ME A REFUND; WE FIGURED THIS ITEM WOULD NEVER ARRIVE. WELL, IT ARRIVED MONDAY, APRIL 24, 2023 , AFTER ORDERING-BUYING MARCH 3O or 31, 2023. IT WAS STUCK IN LIMBO FOR WEEKS. 4K DISC IS EXCELLENT, NO PROBLEM, PLAYS VERY WELL. Seller is good, guess maybe not seller's fault...?? maybe post office's fault?? anyway, seller is good, would use seller again. Others should use seller too. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Let me know how I can "fix" this, update my review, give good review, and delete my nasty review from other day. Thanks. ... show more

  • Worth the wait for Blu Ray
I have loved this movie ever since watching for the first time as child in the 80's. However, I had held out on adding it to my personal movies collection because the DVD did NOT offer 5.1 sound. WTH?!? So when I saw the Blu Ray for sale (and it has DTS), I jumped at the chance. The BR video quality is pretty good. Not as good as say The Transformers (Megan Fox in HD! But that's for another review...), but pretty good for a 25 year old movie. The colors and crispness are very good (again, not as good as recent movies). During the scene where Daniel catches the fly with the chopsticks, I can see the fishing line that is holding the fly. Not sure if that's visible in the DVD or not since I did not own it, but it's something I looked for when watching the BR disc. As previously mentioned, the movie has 5.1 DTS sound which really sounds great. While this is not an action film that has explosions, car chases, etc that really show off the best of 5.1 surround, the 5.1 soundtrack really did add to the movie experience and give it a fuller sound. Watching Daniel go through all the Cobra Kai at the tourney (a 4.0 on the Bill Simmons Vengeance Scale), with the "You're the Best!" song playing in 5.1 is awesome. As far as extras, there is a special "Blu Pop" feature where you can watch the movie with commentary from Ralph Macchio and Billy Zabka and some pop up trivia info. Provides some interesting info about the movie, the characters (you'll hear Zabka explain Martin Kove's perspective on Kreese; Zabka is great during this entire feature), the filming, etc. Overall, I loved the BR disc and am happy that I held out from buying the DVD. Even though I must've seen this movie about 187 times already (thanks to HBO and Encore and a VHS copy I must've worn out as a kid), viewing #188 was just as good as all but #1. ... show more

  • I’m Ready to do the Crane Kick
I had a choice when buying the Karate Kid movies. There was a collection that had all the movies, including the god-awful “Next Karate Kid” and another that included the three originals with the 2010 reboot. The problem with that set is there’s no Blu-Ray version. So I decided to get the versions seperately then get Cobra Kai. The quality on this Blu-Ray is superb, and lives up to its name. The main menu shows scenes from the film as well as some music. You’ll be satisfied with it, I promise. I wish it had “The Moment of Truth” music video by Survivor as a special feature. But I’m not complaining. Being a Song product, this will work on your PS4, and the barcode on the back is compatible with Vudu Disc to Digital, so you can convert it if you’d like. Overall, a great buy. My only real complaint is that the flap on the side of my Blu-Ray case won’t snap shut. But that’s a petty complaint and not worth getting a replacement. Also the artwork inside and the sunset shot on the back is from Karate Kid Part III, not the first one. I know most people get that confused and it’s a bit annoying, but you can ignore it I guess. Go ahead and buy! 👍🏽👍🏽 ... show more

  • RIP Pat Morita ,.
This is one movie that I have probably seen more than 15 times over 20 years,. !! The cast, the script, the locations and of course the timing was ,., spot on when it was filmed. Can you imagine anyone else playing Mr. Miyagi Or Daniel Larusso..? I know that a younger generation has discovered this feature,.because it stands the test of time. Ralph will always be the "Karate kid" ..even though they had a female play over 20 years ago. That certain female won two Oscars ... As every one has said.. Every young boy ,who's being raised in a single parent household. Deserves a mentor like Pat's character . So that he can avoid the pitfall's in life. Such as "bullying, drugs, jail and death. Karate like the military instill's discipline and help's establishes core values. Boys who eventually become Men will need a path to follow in life..that will guide them into making better decisions. Joining and Gangs, selling drugs and re-current run-ends with the law won't offer you nothing but a ..life in prison. Nor will walking into a school with a loaded gun and mowing down a bully, his friends and other random victims . This movie isn't for boys alone..young girl's and other older adults have these encounter's as well.. This is the perfect "Under-dog" film of all time..!! ... show more

  • One of the best movie performances of all time by Pat Morita
This movie was such a sensational little touch of Hollywood magic... The casting choices was spot on... I know that Pat Morita was nominated for best supporting actor at the Oscars back in 1985, but he did not win... That was the worst miscarriage of justice that night... In my opinion, Pat Morita's Oscar winning role made this movie.. I wish back then the Hollywood Foreign Press did not discriminate against comedic actors like they did to this man's Oscar winning performance... (It would be more than a decade when finally they acknowledged a Comedic Actor with the Oscar.) Pat Morita made you believe he was Mr. Miyagi and he will always be remembered for this sensational character he brought to life.. I will say Pat Morita's Oscar winning performance will live on in our memories forever..... Also I believe Ralph Macchio was deserving of the Oscar for best actor as well... Hollywood Foreign Press you really cheated these two great performances... ... show more
