This is a review for the book set, not the stories. The book set looks really beautiful. Each book is small enough to easily travel with, but not so small to make reading difficult. That said, given these are about mass paperback size, some may find the font too small. The set can also be a nice collector piece. Either way, it will look good on the bookshelf. ... show more

    • Little quality set
I finally decided to read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and I wanted a hardback set that included The Hobbit. This set seemed to fit the bill. I was surprised to find that the books in the set were smaller than I was expecting (my fault for not thoroughly checking the dimensions before ordering). However, the quality of the books and page paper is good and I have found them very readable with a good source of lighting. The printing within the map inside the covers is so tiny I have given up trying to read it with a magnifying glass and instead use an online map on my laptop to trace the various character journeys within the stories; and believe me you will want to have that map of Middle Earth to follow along with the series. I read the books after taking off the cover slipcases, since they are made out of a thin paper and I want to keep them pristine. The box keeps all the books together nicely and the set fits well on a bookcase, but like Hobbits, the set may be dwarfed by other books. ... show more

Got these as a present for my wife and she loves them! They are smaller than I expected but a good size still and lightweight. Great quality, the paper covering the handbook is super thin though. So it bends and rips easily. I love the case it came in.

These are smaller than I thought, it should be described as pocket sized. Binding is nice, the outside cover is very cheap. I'm debating whether to return these or not.
