First off people who complain about the size of the font, well they should get some glasses because the size is just fine. What an awesome collection I’ve read two books in the series already (I’m a late Lotr bloomer) and man are they great I’m excited to read the last two. Great books to easily carry around in your purse to read at a coffee shop or at a park somewhere. I love the texture of the book covers, it makes them fun to hold in your hand. The pages are pretty thin, not quite Bible page thin but noticeably thinner than most books you're used to. Font size is pretty small. I don't mind it but I can definitely see folks having a hard time straining if they sit reading this in long stretches. Overall, happy with the purchase. This was an anniversary gift and the spouse loved it! The books are a bit small so you may need a magnifying glass and definitely good lighting to read.

So I have to confess to my addiction: I've read the Lord of the Rings more than 40 times. My first outing in Middle Earth took place the summer of my Junior year in high school, and, every time I need a vacation, I pick it up. My first copy was the three volume box set of pocket book sized paperbacks published by Ballentine Books with the weird, acid trip pictures on the cover. Now, in the far reaches of my decrepit old age, I had a couple of the single volume hardbound gift type editions, but I wanted a convenient easily transportable copy I could throw in a back pack (and before you say it, yeah, I have it on my Kindle. But I'm old fashioned and love paper). So let's get the bad news out of the way first. This is a nice pocket sized edition, which means the print is a little small. There. That's it. On the other hand, this edition is really nice. It is a very convenient size, yep! Fits admirably in a backpack. The paper is thin but decent quality (so the ink doesn't bleed through) and the print is crisp and clear. The covers are a vinyl simulation of suede leather. That means the books don't command the premium price of leather binding, but are very pleasant to the touch, as well as being tough and durable; and they're limp covers, not stiff boards, which also makes them pleasant to handle. Finally, what can I say about the content? I mean, if you have read LOTR you already know, and, if you haven't, what are you waiting for? ... show more

Love this set, the quality is really good and they have a great feel in the hand. I knew these were small when I ordered but they were a bit smaller than I thought and the font is really small as well just be aware. I would order these again for any Tolkien lover.
