Description

Read more Read more The Grit Guard Insert fits in the bottom of your wash bucket and separates the grit from the mitt! The inserts radial surface design extracts particles such as dirt, grit and grime from your wash mitt, providing a clean, scratch-free wash mitt every time you go back to the bucket for water. All of the potentially harmful dirt settle in the bottom of the bucket, keeping it out of your mitt and off of your paint. This simple and cost effective method protects your precious painted surfaces from being scratched and saves your paint from swirl marks and scratches. Fits most 3.5 to 6 gallon buckets. Features How it Works Grit Guard is not a gimmick, it's common sense...when your mitt is in the water, the fibers are fluffed up. When you rub your mitt against Grit Guard in the water, the fluffed up fibers allow the Grit Guard to extract the dirt, grit and grime. 2x The Protection The best method for extracting harmful dirt and grit from your wash mitt or brush is to agitate your washing utensil while submerged in water. For added protection many of our customers opt for 2 Grit Guard inserts. An optional washboard further aids in the cleaning brushes and mitts. Optional Washboard available Wash & Rinse System For the ultimate protection we recommend a dual-bucket wash and rinse system. Some of our customers opt for a third "wheels" bucket as well to keep the nastiest grim away from your cars finish. Optional Connector Plate available Settle & Separate The Dirt Once dirt settles in the bottom of the bucket, the Grit Guard keeps it there by separating the wash water into four quadrants, so the water cannot be disturbed. Also works amazingly well on tile grouting! Read more Will it fit in your washing system? Tech Specs Size 10 3/8" Diameter (263mm) 2 1/2" Tall (63mm) Fits most 12" diameter buckets. • Works great in basically any 5 gallon bucket
Color: Red
Bought this to help remove dirt/grit from my mitt and towels. It fits in well in the home depot bucket I have, it fits snug, just push it a bit in the bottom and it wont fall out when you invert it to empty your bucket afterwards. Overall I really have enjoyed this and has definitely helped minimize the amount of contaminates from my car washes. ... show more

  • light weight
Color: Red
This red one is more rinky dink than the green one that is on Amazon but costs less. I guess it gets the job done but it is lightweight and looks easier broken.

  • Keeps your car scratch-free!
Color: Red
Overall, this is a great product! I purchased two of them to incorporate the two-bucket car-washing system that most car enthusiasts recommend. I must say that I am pleased with the performance of these grit guards - they seem to trap debris at the bottom of the bucket very well. Again, for extra protection, I would recommend that you do use two buckets (with a grit guard in each) - one for rinsing and one for washing. This will vastly decrease your chances of leaving scratches on your car while in the process of washing it. Of course, don't forget a high-quality wash mitt. I purchased the Home Depot 5-gallon (orange) buckets and the grit guards fit perfectly. I am sure there are always slight size variations in both the buckets and the grit guards, so it's possible that you may experience a looser or tighter fit. The grit guards fit quite snugly at the bottom of the Home Depot buckets that I purchased. In fact, when pouring water out of the buckets at the end of the wash, the guards stay in place and I don't even worry about them falling out (unless I gave the bucket a nice shake). If you're worried about getting scratches on your car while washing it (like I am), I'd recommend that you invest in a grit guard to put your mind at ease. This specific one is sturdy (the plastic feels strong and durable) and I suspect it would take a lot of abuse to break or damage the guard. I've had mine for a few months now and I don't foresee having to replace them anytime soon. When it comes to quality, it's hard to beat these guys. ... show more

  • Dimensions and helpful bucket buying guide, oh yeah, I like the Grit Guard too
Color: Red
OK, I usually hate seeing reviews that say "I haven't used it yet" but that is exactly what I am doing. There is no doubt in my mind that it will not remove grit, grime or other contaminants from my wash mitt and keep it away from my cars finish. So what I am going to tell you is about the dimensions which is what many of the questions I read are about and that I had myself. As you can see from my pictures and the dimensions in the description, the Grit Guard is 10 3/8". The statement is also made that it will fit in any standard 12" 5 gallon bucket. So I went out to Lowes and picked up the standard 5 gallon "blue bucket". I took that bucket over to the tool section and measured the top and bottom inner diameters. The top of the bucket was a little less than 12" and the bottom inner diameter was right at 10". Well I didn't have the greatest expectations with those measurements but I bought the bucket anyway with the thought of just having to return it. Well it turned out it fit perfectly. The lower standoffs slightly taper down right to about 10", this let the Grit Guard sit flush with the bottom of the bucket as designed. I am very happy with how things turned out. So if you are looking at buying this to help with your car washing duties, I say go for it. As for the bucket that you want to put it in, take it over to the tool aisle or bring your own tape measure and take some quick measurements, if the bottom is at least 10" in diameter, you're good. My 5 gallon bucket was purchased at Lowes 2/2016. Good luck everybody, hope this helps. ... show more

  • it doesn't do much good if anything
Color: Red
I really don't see the significance of this item. I understand what the intent is, but if you analyze it a bit and think about it, it doesn't do much good if anything. 1. The gaps or holes in the grit guard is way too big. Who washes chunks off their cars? lol If dirt or dust particles were large, yes, this would work wonders. Obviously, that's not the case. Most of the dirt or dust particles' diameter is probably the size of a human hair or smaller. No way the guard is able to trap or separate dirt. Simple motion would immediately disperse and kick up the particles all over in the water. Sure, a guard is better than nothing. But i would say it'll help 10% if even that. 2. For it to work, you'd have to WAIT for the dirt to settle and fall to the bottom. Most of us is not going to do that and it's not realistic. We want to wash our cars fast. So us dipping the wash mitt, washing the car, and dipping the mit back in is too fast for anything to settle. All this time, the water is still moving. Nothing's settled. 2 buckets would be the best method, but it still doesn't give enough time for the water to settle. My idea of a perfect wash is get loads of high quality microfiber towels or plush MF towels and wash mits. 1 towel or mit to wash and 1 towel to dry each panel. So you got 2 fenders, 1 hood, roof, 5 doors, front, and rear bumper. So that's 12 towels x 2 or 12 towels, 12 wash mits. Your wash towels or mits are not to be reused after each panel. This way, your not contaminating your water or your soap. Your wash towels will not be reused to dry. This IMO, would be the perfect process. Or you may get specific towels just for drying. This would obviously be overboard for daily drivers. In summary, does the GG help? Yes, but barely. Is it worth it? Well, it's only about 10 bux, so it doesn't hurt. Better than nothing. But, if you think this is night and day, don't even bother buying it. Honestly, I just wanted to see w/ my own eyes since I'm getting more and more into detailing. ... show more

  • It fits my Standard 5gal bucket.
Color: Red
Works as described I was worried about fitment this one fit a seemingly regular 5 gal bucket. Can not say the same for the Chemical Guys Cyclone-style grit guard.
