  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I don't write review often, but felt compelled to write this one. We gave our daughter this book and a sewing machine (Janome Mystical Mint) for her 11th birthday. She was excited, but intimidated. Frankly, I was too in how to teach her to sew with a machine. She is very comfortable hand sewing, but a machine is a different beast. I asked her if she would like to watch some YouTubes about her machine. Her face sunk. I asked her if she would like to look through the book at some projects she might want to do and she did. We sat together thinking it would be a collection of things we might want to sew once we had learned how to work the new machine (I have an inherited Pfaff, so some things are different on her new machine). I was wrong. This book took both of us by the hand and walked us through the important parts on machines, how to be safe, and then had us start sewing in a straight line on paper without any thread to worry about. IT WAS FABULOUS. In 20 minutes, my daughter knew the parts of her machine and could work the petal at a steady speed and could sew in a straight line on lined paper. But best of all, we are so excited and now are confident that we can do this together, happily, safely, and with no tears. She is so excited for our next sewing machine session. Thank you so much to the authors and illustrators of this book! You changed what was intimidating for both of us to something exciting! ... show more

  • Love this book
Good detailed pic of different parts of a machine with explanations. Love all the practice sewing pics to have you work on following a line, pivoting, reversing, etc. so many cute projects as well. I particularly love the cards the kids can easily sew and then useful to send lots of cute games and jokes but also help with the learning process. Well worth the price. Got this for a 7 year old ... show more

  • Awesome!
I have beenlooking for a good book to teach young kids to sew on a machine! this one is great! lots of great pictures, sewing safety guides. quizes on safety things. also lots of fun practice sheets. there is also a link provided so you can print all the patterns and practice sheets so you aren't ruining the book! it makes learning to sew fun! there are different mazes to sew through and puzzles to work out and then ends with different but simple project patterns. I am currently going through this book with a 6 year old. I probably wouldn't recommend it for any younger than that. ... show more

  • Good book, can't access the downloads anymore
The book gives really good instructions for kids probably 8+. There is a link for downloads to practice sewing the paper, you can only get 4 pages, there were a lot more a few years ago and in the book.

  • Fun and easy to follow.
Awesome book for kids and even an adult first learning to sew. We borrowed this from library first and had to have our own copy. Would definitely recommend.

  • Can teach someone with no previous experience
This is exactly what I was looking for to accompany the sewing machine I bought for my 6 year old granddaughter! It has fun games to teach the basics of sewing. It also gives the down low on sewing machines in simple descriptions (stitch length, bobbin, tension). Hopefully it will now teach her AND my daughter! ... show more
