Description

The Anarchist Cookbook will shock, it will disturb, it will provoke. It places in historical perspective an era when "Turn on, Burn down, Blow up" are revolutionary slogans of the day. Says the author" "This book... is not written for the members of fringe political groups, such as the Weatherman, or The Minutemen. Those radical groups don't need this book. They already know everything that's in here. If the real people of America, the silent majority, are going to survive, they must educate themselves. That is the purpose of this book." In what the author considers a survival guide, there is explicit information on the uses and effects of drugs, ranging from pot to heroin to peanuts. There i detailed advice concerning electronics, sabotage, and surveillance, with data on everything from bugs to scramblers. There is a comprehensive chapter on natural, non-lethal, and lethal weapons, running the gamut from cattle prods to sub-machine guns to bows and arrows. The section on explosives and booby traps ranges from TNT to whistle traps. One hundred and eleven drawings supplement the recipes. "This book is for anarchists," says William Powell, "Those who feel able to discipline themselves on all the subjects from drugs, to weapons, to explosives) that are currently illegal in this country." Techniques, disciplines, precautions, and warnings pervade what may be the most disquieting "how-to" book of contemporary times. Read more

  • Great book. Great info.
I didn't realize I was getting a recent reprint instead of an original. The shiny cover feels plastic and unauthentic. Oh well, same contents.

  • Cool to have but DO NOT attempt the recipes if you value your life and freedoms.
Pretty neat owning a piece of American history, I have to say, but he lists bananas, peanuts and nutmeg as drugs to do. It's poor information at best and deadly at worst. Needless to say, following most of the recipes outlined in this 'cookbook' would most likely result in a tragically violent death. The hand made drawings are pretty cool though. Some of the text is skewed on the page like it wasn't aligned during the scanning process correctly. I didn't see mention of the modern day compound used by terrorists though. That's probably for the best. I'm reading through other reviews right now and I'm not sure why people say this version is abridged. The only thing I can think of is that they're thinking of the version by 'the jolly roger' that was posted on BBS years back which had info related to phreaking and other outdated hacking methods. Those articles by TJR are dated to around '94 though, To me the book sold is a page for page scanned copy of the original with updated copyright info. Someone let me know if I'm wrong though. In doing more research and finding first edition first print books on abebooks dot com (8k dollars!?) I've noticed that they list page count as 160, same as this version listed for sale. I've come to the conclusion, after reading certain reviews, that people just aren't happy there's no meth recipe and decide to return the book. I would expect a recipe like that to be detailed somewhere online when searching if it had been included in the first place. Oh well I guess. Just goes to show that meth really does melt your brain. I've seen a documentary about the stuff hosted on YouTube that pretty much details the entire shake and bake method but for some people they'd rather order a book that's tragically dangerous and written by a 19 year old kid. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not sure what's meant by 'politically corrected version of the anarchist's cookbook' but I doubt the formulas for explosives is very PC. They're still in there though. As for the construction of the hard cover, it's a normal modern day book. The pages feel like any other book's pages. The ink was well laid down and doesn't suffer from smudging or blurriness. Some pages aren't entirely aligned though. The spine binding looks like impregnated glue to me. ... show more

  • A very Serious Book
Ive always wanted a copy, Somewhat of a fascination. I cannot speak for the Original, it was written well before i was born and it seems original copies are very hard to come by and quite expensive. I have not read through entire book, but i skimmed through it checked out some of the more delicate subject matter... If your familar with the context of the writing you know what i mean. My three points thus far 1) There dose not seem to be any redacted material, in todays age i was worried about that and it seems intact although i could be mistaken ( see the Part above about the original). 2) The contents are intriguing, the forward is in depth and gives insight into my Parents and even Grandparents time in America, it should make for a good read 3) My copy at least is printed well, yes the margins are big, and the book its self while not "thick" is rather large at well over 8.5x11 for the hard cover edition. In closing not a bad purchase, however i would state this book covers a very serious subject matter, i would hope it is respected. And, while i beleive we should have acsess to this information, it is a bit, well scary to think of it the wrong hands, be careful, respect the subject matter. Hope you enjoy. ... show more

  • Great Read.
It's a very good book, my only complaint is the 'older' terms but it is an easy thing to overlook and still like the book.

  • outdated and censored
The book is outdated due to the fact it was written in the 70s and some of the information from the original is censored. although some of the recipes are still good, and for some of the radical projects in there they get it more or less right
