This reminds me of those games you bought back in the day that you plugged up to the tv and they advertised things like “plug and play 100s of games.” For its price you can’t beat it for the new to gaming or casual gamer. Many many simple and recognizable games all in one hand held. The first day I got this my kids attacked it and were glued to it but the time I got it the screen was completely black but there was still audio which I found out that means that the battery is low. 1 hour and you’re back playing so it wasn’t even inconvenient. This game console is very simple and light weight. A great sub for the apps you would download with said amount of game options. This comes with exactly 217 games. It also comes with its own charging cable. The battery is also removable like cell phones before now. It’s a perfect gift for kids and adults who are into these stuff. The volume is not loud which is perfect. It’s a very cool thing to have. Not sure show long it takes for the battery to run low when fully charged. I would recommend this to anyone. ... show more

I really was shocked at how quality the screen is on this thing. Seems fairly durable - all buttons and movement (D-Pad / joystick) seem to work pretty well. I just pulled it out of the box and texted about 25 games to give it a run before it ends up in my son's stocking for Christmas. I think back to the Gameboy when I was young, then the Gameboy Color - and "we've come a long way" is an understatement. Again, the clarity of the screen is incredible. The games themselves are a little "meh" - I don't see any of them being repeatable play for anyone much older than 8. The movement is sluggish, and while the buttons seem to work decently, the sluggishness of the response is a little offputting. However, games that are more puzzle like (think sudoku / mahjong type games) are just fine. And I"m sure my son (just turned 6) will get some satisfaction out of this thing. Don't expect much more than what you paid for - I wouldn't necessarily call this a mega-value buy, but its not all bad. Again, the clarity of the games themselves keep you kind of mesmerized. The gameplay is so-so, I could be entertained by the faux Tetris for 10 minutes or so - but I don't think a 6 year old will be bothered by that - the amount of choices and ability to just jump into a game is worth it - because load time of these games is neglible. As mentioned in other reviews - you can't save progress - not that I saw anyway. But these games for the most part are more repetitive than they are about saving progress to get to a bunch of levels. If you're comfortable knowing that its really designed to keep a little one occupied for 30 minutes or so on a rainy day, then this is for you. Just don't go expecting a gaming system that's gonna blow you away for under $300 - and if you think about it from that perspective - $30 ain't that bad. ... show more

I ordered this Handheld Game Console for my 8 year old son and he loves it. It is a portable gaming player that has 218 retro video games preloaded and has a 3.0" LCD screen and a replaceable rechargeable battery (BL-5C) that lasts for about 5-6 hours of play time. It also has a physical volume control and an analog joystick. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge and they have included a micro USB charge cable. I wish they had USB C charge port as most devices now support USB-C. The console is fun to play with, especially for kids who are not familiar with the original retro games. The games are colorful and varied, and some of them are challenging and addictive. The console is easy to use and carry around in your pocket. The console also has some drawbacks that make it less enjoyable for adults or retro game fans. The left and right trigger buttons are fake and do not work. The analog joystick is hard to play with and sometimes unresponsive. The screen and controls have a bit of lag while playing certain games. The games are not the authentic retro games, but rather a rewrite of the old games that are not well polished. There is no indication of low battery, but the screen becomes very dim and the unit turns off when it runs out of power. Overall, I think this is a decent product for kids who like playing video games. It is fun, portable, and affordable. It would make a good gift for any occasion. I would not recommend it to anyone who expects a high-quality retro gaming experience or who grew up playing NES, Atari, or Gameboys. ... show more

    • Good for the 10 and 7 yr-olds, not the 4 yr-old

Two grandsons ages 10 and 7 think this game system is really cool. The 4 yr old grandson was the first to visit after this arrived in the mail, so he was the first to play with it. He didn't take to it; played with it for about 5 minutes, then set it down, and he does like playing video games. When he and his two older brothers were all here for a visit, the two older boys thought it was really cool, played for a long time with it, which sparked a renewed interest in the 4 yr old. The 4 yr old then played for a long time as well, but I'm not sure if he knew what he was doing on those games. He copies his brothers' excitement. All in all, I would have been disappointed if we had this just for a 4 yr-old grandson, but when his older brothers thought highly of it, I'm glad we have it. Update: My suspicions were correct: the 4 yr-old was here again without the brothers and soon got frustrated with the game system and set it down. It's not for younger kids. ... show more
