They look like glue stick tubes and almost write like lipstick, but are not wet. The writing is dry to the touch and the colors are really vibrant. My 4 year old son loves them, too. I do a lot of crafting and art projects with my 2 and 3 year old. I love these as a mostly mess free alternative when I don't feel like getting out all the paint and brushes. They dry almost immediately and there for do not mix together when using one color over another, the colors are bright and they're easy for my kids to use.
