  • Good Shaving Cream
I just recently made the plunge into the world of "Real" wet shaving using a DE Safety razor. I did a lot of reviewing of products before I bought. From everything I read I knew I wanted to get a Best Badger brush 100% Best Badger Bristle Shaving Brush -- White & Chrome Handle with Free Stand From Parker Safety Razor and a good shaving cream. After doing the research on and off of Amazon I decided to give the Taylor of Old Bond Street a try as my first good shaving cream. After much debating I choose the almond scent. I found this shaving cream to be easy to lather. I'll explain how I form the lather later in this review. It goes on nicely and seems to work well for my face. The almond smell is nice but light. I would personally like it to have a slightly stronger scent. But I do like that it wears off quickly and does not conflict with my aftershave. Moving from the world of spray can foams, I think this cream is wonderful. This is my first brush on shaving cream so I don't have allot to compare this too. But this shaving cream does it's job and the cost seems reasonable. I would recommend at least giving this shaving cream a try. I plan on trying a few other scents in this line. I also plan on trying a few soaps. But I think the bar has been set high by starting with this cream. How I make a good lather: I did a bunch of research on how to create a good lather with a cream. After that research I found it was actually very easy. And this method works like a charm with this cream. 1) Prior to showering in the morning I run the sink to get the hottest water I can. I then fill a ceramic (non-white) bowl with hot water, then put the bowl in the sink and fill the sink to the top of the bowl. I then put my brush and razor in the bowl to soak while I shower. 2) After showering I pull the bowl from the sink (leaving water in sink) and dump the water from the bowl (back into the sink). I just pour out the bowl and do not dry it. 3) Shake your wet brush a few times to knock off the surface water. Just a few times will do it. When done you shouldn't have any visible drops on the outside of the brush. 4) Dip the brush into the tub of cream making contact and pressing down slightly. Then spin the brush 2 full rotations and remove from tub. A little goes a long way here. You can always add more if needed later. You should see a small amount of cream on the tips of all the hairs. 5) Swirl brush in bowl in one direction. I go clockwise. Perhaps those south of the equator would go counter clockwise :). Every 10th or so swirl pump the brush once or twice. Repeat until you get a good lather. If you don't start getting a good lather (to thin) in 30ish swirls, spin brush one more time in the cream tub and then continue swirling. I've found this method to be foolproof and gives you a warm and wonderful cream. There is a possibility that you get too much cream versus water with this method. It hasn't happened to me, but if it does (super stiff or chunky) then just wet your fingers in the sink and sprinkle a little water in the bowl. It's likely that different types/quality of brushes could require more or less spinning in the bowl. You'll get the hang of how many times to spin and how hard to press after a few shaves. Remember when spinning the brush in the bowl less is really more. ... show more

  • Wonderful shaving cream
This smells as if you are in a bakery that’s baking Almond sugar cookies. Wonderful smell. Creates a nice thick lather for a quality shave.

  • Provides amazing shaves
I had to get a new shaving cream because the product I previously used had mixed results when using a safety razor. Some days I'd get a good lather and shave while other days it was dismal. There was no in between. I decided to buy this cream because Taylor of Old Bond Street seemed to have a great reputation for men's products. I wanted to give it a try and I wasn't disappointed. I shave everyday. I do a three pass shave every other day and a single pass in between because my hair tends to grow out quick and I prefer the clean look. This gets the job done; with minimal cream being used on a dampened brush (put your brush in hot water while you shower) it creates a thick lather that not only allows you to do three or more passes but smells amazing. In between passes my skin doesn't feel any irritation when I re-apply and I notice that my safety razor doesn't irritate my skin anymore because of how moisturizing the cream is. Seriously, it is amazing. This is easily a $30-$40 product being sold at a steal. Edit: Since my review was first posted, I've begun to experience irritation as a result of the shaving cream. I get an intense burning sensation after my first pass and I originally thought it was razor burn but it is not. The burning sensation would last a few hours after the fact. I switched to my old shaving cream which has been working great since I improved my lathering technique. I still recommend this cream to anyone but would be wary if you have sensitive skin. No knock off on the rating, it was a really good cream and its shame I can't use it anymore. ... show more

  • As advertised with most TOB shaving cremes
TOB is TOB. great smelling, great experience. It really enhances and helps you enjoy the shave which is the whole point of Wet Shaving (well that and many other reasons including reduced costs of shaving). I just wanted to say one thing that I didnt' see when i was researching and ultimately decided to purchase TOB cremes for my initial choice, but am slowly now starting to see posted - and want to emphasize a bit more so people know tis about TOB... TOB does tend to dry. IT does tend to make your skin slightly dry (for shaving purposes). Ive been wet shaving now for over a month and I thought men oticing the drying of skin during shaves more often, or afterwards and irritation - i thought that was all about the "sensitive skin" TOB line (which I heard bad reviews of for this very reason). Now Im starting to notice that more peopel are starting to mention the slight "dry" that this product seems to result in - subtle at first. So I want to make sure people know this. TOB does seem to have a dry effecgt and does seem to dry while shaving. Its still an absolutely terrific great creme and experience and love the feel of it.. but.... if you have sensitive skin or drier skin (i have eczema and a history of drier skin), then TOB may slowly dry you out and cause more irritation as you use it. Consider combining it with pre-shave products to help negate that effect if you have that kind of skin and want to use TOB For me, i am going to experiment a bit with shaving soaps to see if they may work better for my skin, or perhaps test out a creme with more of a reputaion for slickness and products with reputations of retainig or being able to reactiate slickness with watter during multi-pass shaves. I love TOB! but it just may not be a match for certain skin types of the drier variety (unless you want to combine products which I dont want to do or go thru the time of experimenting to find a prodfuct combo of pre-, shave, post- just to get rid of dryness/irritation). ... show more
