Top Amazon Reviews

  • Feels like a regular rope, collecting data is fun
Color: Black
Before purchasing the Rookie model from Tangram, I tried to find some detailed reviews on the web, including YouTube. Perhaps because this is a newer model, there were none. There were however, a lot of reviews available on the original Tangram rope which retails close to $90 and features a fancy LED feature in the rope to beam your skip count out in front of you. The reviews I read on this model mentioned concerns about the weight and hesitation to use it outside because of the electronics in the rope. This "Rookie" model features none of that fancy stuff so the rope is just as light as a standard jump rope. All the electronics are in the left handle and you won't even notice it. Setup was pretty easy, but I did need to read the manual to figure out how to get going. The right handle features battery storage and you will need to open it to grab the included battery before transferring it to the left handle where the actual electronics are located. The battery is a C2032 flat battery which will apparently last for months. This also is unlike the fancier legacy model, which features a rechargeable battery via USB. That likely needs a lot more charging due to the LED beaming ability. Once the battery is in you'll just need to insert the rope into the handles. This was very easy after reading the instructions in the manual. All that's left then is to set up the app, which only takes seconds. You can also set up Apple Health integration to log your workouts and grab your weight and heart rate. Performing the actual workout is easy. You really don't need the fancy beaming ability of the original model as it's easy to either set up your iPhone in front of you or occasionally check your Apple Watch for your skip count and time. There's also a sound feature to notify you at skip intervals of your choosing. (I assume this works just as well on Android devices). One annoying feature is that the count will reset after about ten seconds of inactivity and also then send data as a workout to Apple Health (or presumably the Android equivalent). Thus you could end up with a dozen "workouts" in a 30 minute session. The app itself will show you the total count when you're done, but it's not fun from a data management perspective. Since "skip count" isn't an Apple Health value anyway, I figure I can just use my Apple Watch to log the workout and use skip count within the Smart Rope app for reference separately. That way I will get my workout as one chunk and will still have heart rate and calorie data. At the end of your workout you can create some nice data images to share on social media and such. This will use your total. Other than standard skip tracking the app also has a few additional features. Workout-wise there's an interval tracker which will let you pick from intervals with rest at various skill levels. The interval program does not have the annoying 10-second workout end time, so this is more enjoyable to use if you're going to use Apple Heath or the Android equivalent. Additionally there's a competition mode so you can compete against friends in the somewhat unlikely event you have one with the rope as well. For data there's a simple global leaderboard to compare yourself against other users as well as a personal log with some basic graphs. At a sub-$40 price tag and with no more bulkiness than a standard rope, this is a good edition to your home fitness equipment with the added benefit of some fun data to keep you motivated. It also appears to be the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys fitness. ... show more

  • For beginners workout
Color: Black
If you are starting off with jump rope workouts, go ahead and get it. It will keep your jumping scores etc with the app, however the app always has to be connected to the wifi or mobile data, otherwise it doesn't tally all your jumps. In order to have an accurate account of skips, be sure you are "online". The cord is extremely thin (not made of wire), therefore certain moves become more of a challenge, as the cord can easily get tangled or twisted. For instance if you want to do Cross Jumps, the cord is too light...therefore extremely challenging. I tried changing the cord for a thicker one, but I was unable to insert it into the handles as the space is designed for a thin rope. I recommend you don't store it in the bag, but rather hanging so it doesn't get kinks and twisted. The app is very simple, it does keep you engaged once you figure out when it does count every jump. Once you manage the basic jumps and if you want to advance into more jump rope workouts: get heavier cords. ... show more

  • Like this equipment
Color: Black
This piece of equipment is fun and easy to use. Connection with the phone and its app is real easy...well there is not really anything to do beside turning it on. The app needs a lot of improvements but I am sure they will come eventually; the worse point to me is that it only works online therefore if the phone is not connected to internet, it only do the basic count and does not record anything anyway. The rope is good but it is quite light and it would be nice to have heavier replacement available. It comes with a very useful bag. ... show more

  • Easy to Setup and Use - Want a Heavier Rope Though
Color: Black
Setup: Super easy. I saw a couple other reviews about not including batteries.....it's in a separate storage portion of the handle which is not easily noticeable so please read the setup instructions! Hardest part was threading the rope LOL Use: When the app is open it really does just start counting when you start jumping. In the basic count mode it will stop when you're not jumping for a bit (my guess is roughly 15 to 20 seconds?) The rope it comes with is pretty light and not as smooth as in the picture. I'm going to buy a separate heavier rope to get a better workout and so it actually swings better and cleaner. ... show more

  • Love my rope, encourage to get moving
Color: Coral
It was very easy to get started, and connected with the app. I love being able to watch how much I’ve jumped and for how long. It does stop when you stop so it’s pretty good accuracy of time. Color is super cute ! And length is adjustable

  • Magic Jump Rope!
Color: Pink
Such a cool product! I love how my jumps are recorded .. it somehow feels like i am getting “credit” for jumping , whereas a regular old jump rope doesn’t care one bit how many jumps you did and doesn’t even bother to count . I know , how could it. I’m not sure what all theses sad reviews are about .. no troubles here! I did boil the cord for 3 minutes on the stove which worked perfectly to straighten out . Thanks to whoever suggested that! And thank you Rookie makers for making a magic jump rope! ... show more

  • Not that smart of a rope
Color: Black
I bought it about 6 months ago. The battery that comes with it apparently drains a bit quicker than expected, which is ok. A bit annoying to take it out and slot it back in each time you use it. It isn’t the easiest mechanic without a tool. The main reason I’m writing this review is that the handle broke after 6 months. I popped it back in, but it isn’t quite right. Go for a normal rope and time it. Otherwise forget this. Somehow it’s worth than a regular jump rope after 6 months. ... show more
