  • Smaller, lighter, great images at less than 1/2 price of the Sony G-Master
I've been waiting what seems like forever for a 3rd party lens that could compete with Sony's 70-200 G-Master. I just couldn't justify the cost of the G-Master. Finally Tamron has done it! Though it's 70-180, not quite the range of the GM's 70-200, the difference is minimal and the advantage of being much lighter and less than half of the price of the Sony definitely makes up for it. Focusing is fast and accurate on my A7riii. The images are are great! Nice bokeh, great background compression due to the long focal length. This is exactly what I've been waiting for and my wallet is glad I did. Sometimes I find myself buying gear and later realize maybe I didn't need it or don't use it as much as I had expected... but no regrets on this purchase - I highly recommend this lens! ... show more

  • MUST HAVE FOR SONY SHOOTERS
If you’re considering this lens you know it’s light, small, inexpensive and currently the only alternative to the overpriced 70-200 f2.8 G-Master. Tamron has been making great zoom lenses for Nikon, Canon and now Sony. I own their 17-28 and 28-75 zooms for Sony and had been using Tamron’s 70-200 f2.8 G2 for Canon with an MC-11 Canon to Sony adapter on my a7iii. This 70-180 replaces the G2+MC11 that produced amazing still images but would not autofocus during video. The 70-180’s weaknesses are the missing 20mm on the long end and VC (vibration control). Neither missing features are deal breakers but I do notice the reduction on the long end and prefer VC especially at longer focal lengths. Both features are trade offs for the advantages of weight, length and price. For many years my favorite lens has been the 70-200/now 70-180 and for me the size and weight advantages more than offset the missing features. The combination of a smaller Sony mirrorless body with the smaller/lighter 70-180 is less intrusive walking and easier on to carry on a long photo shoot. Shooting events and weddings with a lighter bag of lenses is much easier to haul around. As an aside I returned the 70-180 purchased through Amazon because of a longer delivery schedule and purchased it from another vendor with quicker availability. ... show more

  • Great clear lens
Ive been waiting for a while for the release of this lens. I wasn't disappointed. The lens once fixed to the camera is smooth and fairly quick to find and lock in focus. The clarity is superb. I am incredibly happy with this lens

  • Very happy with this lens!
In love with this lens! Nice and light and pictures are coming out so perfect! All the extra stuff it came with was not needed or used.

  • Love it!
Amazing lens at half the size of the Sony! I wanted the focus to be faster but still good for the price.

  • For this prize- it's one of the best lens
Pros: weightless, very good auto focus Cons: when u zoom the lens extends and dust might get into the lens.

  • Great lens, TERRIBLE durability! BEWARE!
I want to love this lens, and would if I've had to have it repaired three times. The problem - when you put the lens hood on regularly, after a while it wears out the focus barrel where it breaks. I have never dropped it and have treated it with kid gloves, but it keeps happening within about a year. I wish I had gone with the more expensive (and durable) Sony equivalent - I would have saved a lot of money. ... show more

  • Best bang for your buck lens
Image and build quality is excellent. It's half the price of competitor's comparable 70-200 and really performs on par with those.
