I purchased this Syncwire Digital Optical Audio Cable to replace an optical cable that was starting to fail. With the gold-plated connectors this purchase should have represented an upgraded connection from my Sony TV to my Klipsch sound bar. I had no idea a cable could impose a kind of EQ effect over any/all sources regardless of how the output is configured (PCM, DTS, etc). Overall the sound quality is brighter, yet much of the bass reproduction is stripped out. There is more treble which could potentially improve the audio quality for some types of content (i.e. talk shows). Unfortunately, the cable also imposes an artificial stereo separation that makes content sound like it is echoing off the walls in large, empty room. The sound quality overall is harsh and on some sources unusable. As an example, an iHeart AM radio station feed sounded like it was taking place over a speakerphone — tinny and with a reverb quality to it that reminded me of feedback on a bad mic. I bought this 10 ft optical cable digitally stream audio from my Samsung TV/Amazon Fire TV stick to my Harman Kardon integrated amplifier. It worked great! Digital streams over optical cables are highly impervious to interference that is increasingly common, which is a major advantage of using this type of cable. 1. Mechanical connection: it snapped into place and stays there, both on the TV and amplifier. 2. Sound: very, very good. The full spectrum is transferred with high SNR, and virtually no interference. Amazon HD sends a signal across the cable to identify the transfer data rate capability, and identified that it can send 24 bit/ 192 kHz streams, which is the highest offered by Amazon HD. My integrated amp has a high quality DAC that converts the stream to analog for amplification. ... show more

I installed a new Samsung smart tv along with their matching Q70R Soundbar. For installation reasons I hoped to have it communicate wirelessly with our home theater system. We had so many dropouts on WiFi that, after several tweaks that didn’t work, I switched it to Bluetooth. Same problem, maybe a bit worse. Keep searching or else you will just be wasting your time with returns. The quality of the materials are great, BUT the cable does NOT lock into place, so, it is a complete waste. Unless you are standing there pushing the cable in, it will not work at all. I verified that this is the case by trying another optic cable. I have never purchased an optical cable until now so I had nothing to compare it with. Recently I bought a Yamaha sound bar that came with an optical cable. There is a difference. The included cable didn’t plug in very tightly and would become disconnected when I moved my tv on its wall mount. This toslink cable solved this issue. It plugs in snuggly, doesn’t disconnect and the sound quality is excellent. The quality was impeccable. It is amazing sound quality and for the first time my elderly mother can hear without busting out my eardrums. It has given her surround sound that she can actually hear. It has been a far better cable than the one the sound bar manufacture supplied originally. So glad I purchased this. i really like these cables a lot. i am pretty finicky about my sounds and i am not going to pretend that there is a huge difference but these are very good quality. i ESPECIALLY like the optical caps that they come with. that is a small part but when you are cutting drywall or something with those around, it is nice to know it will not affect the audio quality. ... show more
