  • This is a great starter camera
This camera, 5MP, far exceeded my expectations, and my standards are rather high. I chose 5MP because resolution of microscopes aren't that high. Any higher resolution will not give me any more detail, but will create needlessly larger image files. A true professional cameras of this sort is in thousands of dollars range, so my expectations were rather low. To my GOOD surprise, the camera is made of very sturdy material, likely milled or die cast aluminum. Sleeves are metal, again, likely a milled aluminum tubing. I was expecting plastic. Nope. Good metal. Images are crisp or shall I say as crisp as I can see from ocular lens myself. Software is easy to use. Installed quickly and needed no fiddling around. That's a surprise, too. Color is good, and I use calibrated LCD monitors with >100% RGB coverage. Since microscopy is my hobby, I don't see why I would want anything more. I will also be using this camera for electronics repair in combination with stereo scopes. Will be very nice to have this and having image projected on large LCD panel while I work on tiny SMD components. I am very happy with this product. ... show more

  • Works great
Size: 18 Megapixel 3.0
After reading some of the negative reviews, I don't find any reason to complain about this Swiftcam 18MP camera. The software seems fine and I don't see any slow performance issues. If I change anything, the image on the PC screen updates immediately. I give it top marks! Go for it.

  • Awful software. Spent hours on it, have no idea how to start recording
Size: 18 Megapixel 3.0
I can't say enough bad things about the software. WTF IS this??? No tutorials ANYWHERE ON THE INTERENET!!! I'm an engineer, solid computer skills, and I spend the entire day on this crap and all I can figure out is you have to go through the menus to START RECORDING!!! Where is the siimple little "Record" button that you press to start, and press again to stop??? 8,000 settings, I don't care about, I just want it aoutomatic, one button recoprd. HOW HARD IS THAT??? I'm going to now buy a competitors camera that comes with decent software (and tutorials on youtube!!!) and run this one over in my driveway. Gawd what a waste. ... show more

  • Awesome microscope camera!
Size: 18 Megapixel 3.0
Bought this microscope camera to up my game. Really easy to mount to the camera port with the c-mount adapter that came with my microscope and to connect the other end to my laptop. I had to contact Swift for the software because I don't have a CD drive (who does these days??), but they quickly sent me a downloadable file and I was all set within minutes. Super easy to take pictures, and the software gives a lot of control over image editing. You can change stuff like exposure, contrast, balance and so forth. It also has a "reset to default" for the various options so you can easily revert back to original settings if you mess up while playing around. I'm attaching some pictures I took of a stained plant matter slide at different magnifications. One thing to note is that if you're taking video, you'll need a computer with a dedicated graphics card. My Surface Book couldn't really handle the frame rate for smooth video, even with the USB 3 connection. I also imagine that the better your trinocular microscope is (my current one is Swift's SW380T), the better and sharper the images will be. But overall I'm very happy with what I can do with this camera and feel that the value lives up to the price! ... show more

  • Perfect, required small adjustment, see review.
I purchased this microscope for my girlfriend so she could show me more about what she does in the world of microbiology. When it arrived, we couldn't see a full image in the right eyepiece, and it seemed as though it was partially blocked. Fearing damage, I gently removed the cover over the eyepiece and discovered the mirror had simply shifted too far out of alignment. Gently pushed it back into position, checked through the eyepiece, and replaced the cover. Works perfectly. Girlfriend loves it, images are beautiful and crisp. Very pleased it came with a nice plastic cover for the scope when it's not in use. I would prefer if the LED was slightly brighter, but honestly that's being really picky and it is more than adequate. The body and construction is very solid and polished. Feels more like a college lab microscope than an elementary school microscope if that makes sense. Overall, it works great, it's pretty easy to use, and it made her happy so I can't complain. Wish I could be more helpful describing how the microscope stacks up to other models, but I'm a programmer so I have almost no experience with microscopes outside of college. ... show more

  • A Good Photo Option for Small Laboratories
I have used this camera on two of my microscopes (an Olympus stereo and a Bristoline compound) with very good results. I would have given the picture quality a 4.5 as it really provides a very usable image on both scopes, but could be a bit sharper. The software is very easy to use and provides an amazing number of options to adjust the image without the need for any other photo software. The camera has a very nice build and is rock solid. I use the 30mm adapter (included) for the stereoscope and the standard tube for the compound. Both systems are provide a precise fit without any wobble or focusing issues. It probably would not be considered a research quality instrument, but for most applications in laboratories and teaching, it works just fine and is well worth the price. ... show more

  • Works great, software is meh
Size: 18 Megapixel 3.0
Rather than spend nearly $500 on an attachment for my Sony camera, I though this would be a more integrated way to photograph microscopic images, and it is. 18 mega pixel is a reasonable resolution for web images and printing (8x10, 11x14 sizes). The software is a bit clunky, but works, so 4/5.
