🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The reviewed electric bike garners mixed reactions, primarily positive, with riders appreciating its speed, portability, and quirky features. Though designed for commuting with ease of folding and a robust build, some users highlight limitations such as the small wheel size affecting its functionality without power, and occasional mechanical issues. However, updates and long-term use reveal a substantial improvement, with solutions for initial drawbacks such as squeaky brakes and battery problems, enhancing its appeal.

Pros

  • 🚴‍♂️ Fast speed with 18 miles per hour capability
  • 🔧 Solid, easily foldable design aimed at commuting convenience
  • 💡 Built-in headlight and battery for security
  • 🚵‍♂️ Effective on steep hills, supported by peddling
  • 🔄 Positive long-term updates, including no-flat foam for tires and resolved brake issues

Cons

  • 🔧 Initial mechanical challenges (e.g., squeaky brakes, battery issues)
  • ⏲ Short-lived battery life mentioned in a singular review
  • 🚲 Small wheels limit joy and speed when riding without power

Should I Buy It?

If you value a portable, uniquely designed electric bike for short commutes or leisure, and are willing to potentially navigate initial mechanical adjustments, this bike could be a great addition. Its pros outweigh its cons, especially with the manufacturer's support addressing early concerns. Ideal for those looking for a fun, functional ride with some DIY maintenance potential.

  • Great Bike But Had To Return
Reading the 1 star reviews I don't agree with any of them. The battery lasts fairly long and can last longer if you don't always have it on full blast! The bike has fast pick up and it goes around 18 miles an hour, not 11. The folding is very easy and I guess it's heavy but it's also a solid bike with a frame that's literally a handle so I felt moving it around and folding it was very easy. Meaning, this bike was designed with commuting in mind and is very effective. I had a folding bike before and this one is easier. I love the headlight and it's a comfortable ride. The bike is useable without power BUT the small wheels limit the amount of joy in riding it without power. The gears help a little but small wheels are small wheels. No matter how many gears you stick on it, you'll only go so far per rotation so it only goes so fast. I felt the ride on full throttle was comparable to an e-scooter. Oh and it will get you up a very steep hill. You can also use the peddling to compensate if the hill is super steep. I rode it up the side of a mountain road. WHY did I return it and only give it four stars? Brakes squeak like crazy. Support told me ways to adjust but I don't want a new bike that I had to fix. If the next one squeaks I like the bike enough that I'll keep it and work through the squeak but that was a real bummer. Other than that I really like it. Another bonus is that the battery and light are built into the frame so nobody can really steal anything off you. Again, they thought of a lot to make this a great commuter bike. Update--got a new bike and the brakes do not squeak! So I was sent a bad bike. Update 2--two years later. Added a bike rack for a saddle bag and also a post for a trailer/and a bike trailer. Both of them work well with the bike. The bike was getting flats more than normal so my bike guy put in that no flat foam (green) and I haven't had flat in over a year of daily use. Brakes will go every five months. This might have to do with the fact that I am always driving this on high speed and the brakes have to slow it down. Other than that I still think it's a great bike. I would like maybe a bike with bigger wheels but then it defeats the purpose of the small size. On that note I did buy a bag to put the bike in when it's folded, which is great for ubers and buses if anyone gives you any crap just say it's an English horn. And finally, I did have a battery issue which was making the bike jolt. Customer service walked me through what might be wrong. I bought a replacement battery and the problem went away. Customer service isn't bad. They guy on the phone just doesn't come off as chatty but he knows what you're talking about and will help you out. If you do need to send it back they will pay for delivery shipping after they fix it (post warranty) but not to send it to them. It's actually cheaper to ship to them then take it to a local place because many places don't have the parts for this bike. That being said, Swagtron does have parts issue if you have an older version of the bike. They released different types of these bikes but they look the same and are called the same model. ... show more

  • Fun EBike
Unboxing was easy to do, Everything mechanical seemed to work properly. I removed the battery to charge it while I completed the assebly and set up. Thw charge light was green and stayed green when I plugged in the battery indicating what I thought was a full battery. When I finished assembly and inserted the battery the bike wouldn't turn on, DOA. I finally plugged in the charger to the on-board charging port and the light turned red indicating that is was now charging. Four hours later the battery was charged and the bike works well. I have a concern because Swagtron hasn't had replacement or second batteries for sale for over a year. I did a little experiment and took the battery out then plugged the charger in the on-board charging port. The bike booted up fine and indicated a full charge even though the was no battery installed. Then I plugged in a battery from a different bike to the same port and it worked. So my conclusion is that I can plug in an external battery in the future but really they could do better. ... show more

  • Great fun, easy to use, good value, bit of a tinkerer's special. I very much like it.
First off, I love this bike. It's surprisingly nimble, takes me where I want to go, and was easy to rig as an errand machine (I added a seatpost rack and a cheap basket that I found at Ross). I'm right at the top end of rated weight and the bike performs wonderfully. At top speed, I get around ten miles on a fully-charged battery, and the charger is tiny so it's easy to carry to the office. Here are more details: The Good * Great price for what it does * Rides very nice on pavement and dirt * Feels stable on fast downhill runs * Quick swap battery is excellent - I carry a spare in my bag * Battery locks securely in the bike with a key * Battery can be charged in or out of the bike, no need to find a place to park next to an outlet * Gets up to speed quickly with or without pedaling * Nice Shimano derailleur * Climbs hills surprisingly well * Front headlight * Folds easily and will fit in the trunk of pretty much any car * Carry handle makes a secure place to lock the bike up * Fun to ride! The Bad * Needs some tuning out of the box - I had to adjust the front brake and true both rotors * Squeaky brakes (still working on this) * Lots of creaks and other noises to chase down (all fixable though) * Reflectors are pretty cheesy * Seat post is a weird size, hard to find parts * Will not fit comfortably anyone over about 5'10" tall * Difficult to carry when folded The Ugly * (This may not apply to you depending on how you use this eBike) The gearing on this bike is all wrong - a 42-tooth chainwheel and a 14-tooth top gear on the freewheel paired with the small wheel size means the motor is going to take the pedals out from under you at around 12-14 mph depending on how fast you want to spin your legs around. I swapped the original freewheel (NOT a freehub - be careful if you order a replacement!) for a model with an 11-tooth 7th gear and that helps a lot. I'm still considering replacing the chainwheel with a 48- or 50-tooth model. Again, this might not be important for you depending on how you intend to ride. All in all, do I recommend this eBike? Yes, 100%, without reservation. Just keep in mind you'll want to spend some time working on it at first, both to clean up minor manufacturing/shipping issues and to get it to do what you want it to do. After that it's all fun all the way down the road. Enjoy! ... show more
