I fill it 1/4 full of water and put it in the freezer overnight with the lid off, then fill the rest of the way with water in the morning before sending him off. This will stay ice cold all day in the scorching heat. In fact, this thing is so well insulated that when I put it in the freezer with the lid off, it is difficult to get the water to freeze solid in it, even being only 1/4 full. I use this jug to take water to the field and it gets plenty of abuse. With it's low center of gravity it rides around in machinery all day and doesn't fall over and roll around like other jugs do. This is a great sturdy large capacity water bottle. I’ve had it for a few weeks and so far no leaking and it keeps water cold for several hours, usually into the next day. The handle is easy to hold and it’s not terribly heavy for a container this size. Overall I am happy with this purchase.

I have bought two of these 64 ounce jugs. I use mine for hot coffee first thing in the morning, my husband uses his for ice water for work. My coffee stays hot from 730am until about 1pm and then it's warm until I'd assume 5-6pm however I've never let the coffee stay in it that long.
