I fill it 1/4 full of water and put it in the freezer overnight with the lid off, then fill the rest of the way with water in the morning before sending him off. This will stay ice cold all day in the scorching heat. In fact, this thing is so well insulated that when I put it in the freezer with the lid off, it is difficult to get the water to freeze solid in it, even being only 1/4 full. I have bought two of these 64 ounce jugs. I use mine for hot coffee first thing in the morning, my husband uses his for ice water for work. My coffee stays hot from 730am until about 1pm and then it's warm until I'd assume 5-6pm however I've never let the coffee stay in it that long. My husband is a driver and delivers furniture all day so he always keep a case of bottled water. I bought one like this for my son, for football, and so I got another one. My husbands only complaint is that it’s too heavy, duh it holds a gallon, but wishes it had the option to switch caps for one that he can sip from instead of using 2 hands to hold to drink. Makes perfect sense. As a driver, he needs something that’ll make driving safer. So, he waits until there is a red light to hydrate or after a delivery before driving again.
