Photos of the black make it appear to be completely dark/opaque. However, you can see through the black pretty good. My neighbor went with the gray and you can’t see through that one at all. I installed this on wooden posts using extra wide marine washers and screws. It has held up pretty well to a few summer storms we've had since, and I found it was possible to spray paint stencils on it which made it really unique and beautiful. I'm using this to hide areas in my yard I recently cleared of blackberry bushes. It serves my needs for now. I also wanted something that will keep our dog and the neighbor's dog from seeing each other. We shall see if that will address that issue but as far as coverage, it does the job. The area I covered is also under trees so it is hard to tell if this fabric does provide the coverage it claims but quick glance, it seems thick enough. I was skeptical that this screen fence would really do what it claims to do. It really does provide some good privacy. We put it up on a fence that already had fence slats in it. We like the privacy it gives to us. The brown color is more a brown/black. It's seems pretty heavy duty. They only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the zip ties that were included with the fence were pretty weak. We ended up buying more sturdy zip ties at Walmart for less than $5 bucks.
