Most of these types of kits do not actually show the blank canvas of the actual painting, they have a photo of the finished painting and then some generic photo of a blank canvas. This one actually shows you exactly what you are getting. Also, this one has different slight shades on the canvas already (look closely at the photo). Not only does it make it easier to know where to paint, it acts as a gray scale underpainting to give the painting more depth if you mix glazing medium into the paint. Of the four different kits I bought, this was the only one that had this. I will look for kits with this in the future. FYI, with all paint by number kits you need a 16 x 20 (usually) canvas board. You have to carefully iron the folded canvas on low heat and then glue it to the canvas board, then place it face down with weight on it to dry. Trim excess when dry. Also strongly recommended, a layer of clear acrylic leveling gel before you begin painting. This make the surface smoother, makes wiping off mistakes way easier, and gives the painting a deeper, glazed look when you paint over it. I also suggest mixing a small amount of glazing medium (as much as you can fit) to each little can, again to create more depth. So a lot of prep work to get started! Best to fill in the colors just as directed, then go over the painting again to give it more detail and blending. A second layer, with more glazing medium added, is generally always an improvement. This is definitely not for beginners. First off there are way too many individual places for color. The hardest part is even seeing the numbers to know where to paint I had to get out the magnifying glass and decided it was not worth it. I wanted something to help me relax. This was not it.

The canvas ironed well and it is on actual canvas. Its the rubbery kind of substrate so I gessoed mine with transparent gesso for some grip. I started with the white back ground which frankly is messy and to my mind should have been already white without need to actually pain it all maybe just to add texture with paint in places. I was excited to get started but the paints for mine were all dry so am somewhat disappointed. I do have my own acrylics and am doing my best to color match using my own paint but its not as relaxing as I had hoped it would be. If the paints were all wet and lovely I would have given it five stars. but as is its 3 but only because the painting itself looks lovely. ... show more

This came saying it was a canvas, but it is a canvas-like poster, not a board. The quality of the print and paint is amazing though! It is a huge poster and very easy to read and see the numbers even though they are small. Super easy to assemble and all the paints have the number printed right on them. The size of the actual painting is not 16x20. Most paint by numbers are the true 16x20 picture. This was not the case for this picture. The total canvas is 16x20 but there is about an inch of blank space around the entirety of the painting. This makes framing it a challenge. And the paper that accomodates the painting did not match exactly so it made it hard if you painted over one of the tiny numbers. It's like the paper was a slightly different painting. ... show more
