  • A classic for daily use!
If you didn't know better, it wouldn't be easy to figure out that this sugar bowl was designed in 1967, nearly 42 years ago. This is an item with a sleek, minimalistic and modern look, but more than anything it is functional. It just "makes sense", as the designer, architect Arne Jacobsen, probably would have put it himself, had he been around (he used to say that the design had to make sense). To me it makes 100% sense to collect and USE these beautiful Stelton Cylinda Line items that Arne Jacobsen (and some other Stelton designers) have brought to us. I'd rather own these items, and use and enjoy their beauty every day, than have expensive porcelain and silverware sitting in my cabinets only to have them come out for use once or twice a year! The Cylinda Line items from Stelton have a unique and modern design and above all, they are sturdy and very functional. These items are made both for the eye (and soul!) and for daily use in the household. And, for collectors, they are sure winners too, they'll always be design classics. Personally I'd rather use them though, which I bet is what Arne Jacobsen made them for! To me it makes perfect sense to enjoy such wonderful items! And BTW, this sugar bowl is also used for mustard. Stelton has also had a set with a little tray with indentations for the set's two salt and pepper shakers and (sugar-) mustard bowl. So why don't you get a few of it? I own two myself, one for sugar cubes and one for ordinary sugar. I plan on getting one more, to serve my home made strong mustard with honey in style! The only functional "flaw" with the design of this beautiful sugar bowl is that the lid's spoon opening is a bit too narrow so that most spoons won't fit. It fits perfectly for the teaspoon Arne Jacobsen designed himself for Georg Jensen though (if memory serves me right, in 1957). Having the whole, modern and futuristic, silverware set costs a lot (around $3,600 for 12), but a teaspoon or two all of us can afford (around $20/piece), so just get one, matte or shiny, depending on your own silverware/cutlery, and the opening problem is solved! Enjoy! :) ... show more
