  • Not what I was expecting
Style: Surform Block Plane
Love Stanley tools but this isn't what I was expecting. The tool itself is very lightweight but it cannot be used on thick wood, only good for smaller/thinner wood projects for sure!

  • Not as good as the older ones
Style: Surform Block Plane
I've had one of these for many years, I used it a LOT, no telling how many replacement blades I put on it. Well, I some how lost it, probably left it on a job site somewhere, so I needed to replace it. Very disappointed to find the screw AND the clamping part inside is cheap flimsy plastic. C'mon, Stanley, seriously this is ridiculous. I would have returned it, but there's no other option now, this is the only one. I was aware that the screw was plastic when I ordered, so I figured I'd just replace it with a better screw. No dice, the screw is some odd proprietary thread pattern. It's about 5/16" diameter, but 16 TPI. Non-standard! Tried 3/8", tried metrics, nothing works with the clamp, I'm stuck with the plastic screw. Argh... Clearly this is a "they don't make them like they used to" situation. ... show more

  • Good for small tasks!
Style: Surform Block Plane
I bought this product to shave off the top of my doors so they can close properly. Great value. Saved myself a couple hundred dollars having someone else do it. This tool only cost me $12! It was easy to use and I was able to finish three doors in under 15 minutes. The metal body fits nice in my hand. The blade wasn't as sharp as I hoped but it did the job. The blade is fairly easy to replace but you have to balance and fiddle with it a bit to get the blade in a proper position. Overall, it was great value and choice for a small task. If you're planning on using it a lof, I recommend spending a few extra dollars for another brand or model with better quality. ... show more

  • Secret Woodworking Weapon
Style: Surform Block Plane
You can basically do anything to wood w/ this thing, as long as you're patient -- some of the reviews have complained about the plastic set screw that holds the blade in place, which is a legit gripe -- how much more expensive would it have been to make it out of basically "immortal" metal? But that shouldn't be a problem as long as you hit it w/ WD40 once in a while to keep it from getting brittle. Pro tip: Use a a pair of pliers to loosen & tighten set screw -- your fingertips will thank you! ... show more

  • does the job
Style: Surform Block Plane
I liked the fact that you can control the depth of cut by increasing or decreasing downward pressure on the tool.

  • Works. Kind of
Style: Surform Block Plane
Kind of like taking a cheese grater to a piece of wood. Worked but so would a cheese grater. Or a sander about as fast.

  • Small and light weight
Style: Surform Block Plane
very light weight, easy to change blades. What I like the most is that it is small and light weight. it does not increase much weight in my pouch. I don't use it as much, but I like to have it on hand when I need it.
