  • Formerly sturdy unit
In a first consideration, the unit has only been assembled and briefly used over the past hour or so. Ease of assembly is generally pretty facile, though the illustration on the inside of the manual perhaps is showing the left and right shoes reversed by labeling in the perspective view shown. Perhaps it is only the illustration's angling that is misleading, but a quick review of both the unit and the lettering of the base and the shoes should correct any potential confusion encountered and really did not bother me beyond mild puzzling over the picture's form. Of a bit more concern, possibly critical is the actual excursion of the unit. The flywheel is just about 8" or 20 cm in diameter and without any cam mechanism this limits the glide path to the same 8". The movement is more than a stepper device, my x-ciser unit having perhaps only 1" variability here and being almost like climbing a ladder at 70 degree elevation. I was hoping, at 5'8" tall and with a normal gait step of perhaps 14-16" to have a somewhat longer stride length. If I have a suggestion for the manufacturer, it would be to have a slightly taller unit with a 10" flywheel giving a similar length stride for those seeking a more marked excursion. An alternative design would involve a much more complex true elliptical system with a second rotation of each shoe to extend the stride path pretty much requiring at least an elevation of the base by 1" to accommodate an extended downstroke and cancelling any benefit of unit design while making the mechanics probably much less satisfactory for simple maintenance and functioning. Those who feel that they are nearly shuffling with a stride of 7-8" should likely consider avoiding use of this device unless they might be willing to acclimate themselves to the unit. I will have to see as to whether I can acclimate myself to the unit or consider returning it myself. Addendum: While taking some getting used to, the unit can work well. Seated is a bit more comfortable than standing for a taller individual, though still the small size necessitates compromise with the small flywheel accommodating a shortened stroke cycle that can be tolerated while not being ideally constituted to smooth tracking. A sensation, at least for some, of a sharpened transition of turning may give a quality not unlike some impact of a jolt without the jolt itself. Additionally, those with a woman's shoe size are perhaps less likely to experience the issue, but a male size 48 or 13 equivalent will find the shoe too small to accommodate a larger size readily. Addendum. Late usage with more of the gait type of a stepper device is more suitable for me and allows continued use. Late addendum Catastrophic failure at 9 + months. Use 6 of 7 days/week, weight of single user varied 190-194 pounds. Speed estimated 6-6.5 mph as rapid walk and average of 42 minutes (28-45 minutes daily). Needs replacing or repair or refund. ... show more

  • IT WORKS, But ...
THE ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have this machine, Joroto ME15 Mini Stepper, for a short period of time only, so I cannot say anything about the longevity of the machine. Also, I never used any other elliptical mini steppers, so I cannot compare this machine to other similar machines. I did not assemble the machine, a friend did it for me. I use the machine - sitting in a chair and watching TV or listening to music. I found out that in order for the machine to rotate smoothly, I need to rotate it with some speed. When I try to rotate it slower, the rotation is not a smooth one. The machine is not absolutely quiet. It does produce some sound (noise), but the level of this sound is rather low. In other words, the machine does make some noise, but it is not a noisy machine. And when I turn on the air conditioner or when I watch TV, the sound (noise) of the machine is heard less or much less. The display of the machine is almost useless for me. It is very small, I do not use it. I am not trying to lose weight using ME15, just wanted to have something to exercise my legs. Well, for that purpose, the machine does work. How it will work in the future - the future will show. AN UPDATE: I now have and use this machine for about six months. I believe that the level of noise the machine produces - increased with time. The original noise was a shuffling one, and now sometimes I hear a clicking sound (noise) also. The shuffling sound (noise) is produced always when I use the machine, and the clicking sound (noise) sometimes exists and sometimes not. It is written in the description of the machine "Near Silent Workout." I think it was "near-silent" when I received and started using this machine, but it is NOT a "near-silent" now. So, I changed my initial 4 stars estimation of this machine to 2 stars. I give it 2 stars because the machine does work. But it is NOT a"near-silent" machine now! ... show more

  • Well constructed high quality piece of equipment
I've had my Joroto Under-Desk Elliptical Stepper for the past six weeks and have used it daily as I sit at my desk. I am using it right now while typing this review. I love it and it does exactly what I hoped it would do - keep my leg muscles active throughout the many hours per day I spent inactive at my desk. I, at 77 years old, suffer from leg and foot Edema caused by poor blood circulation because of all the years of inactivity at my desk both at my job of 40 years and the many years since retirement now at home. While this Elliptical Stepper is not magically by itself going to cure my Edema, within just a few days of use my feet and legs felt much better and even my Kidney outputs noticeably improved from the increased overall blood circulation. In the highest resistance setting, this machine can make you sweat and give you a heck of a workout if you choose, contrary to a few reviews I saw before purchase. I wasn't looking for a sweaty workout, I just wanted something to keep my legs moving, and it does that and much more. It is Super Quiet, easy to use and very-well made. It is hefty at 30 to 40 pounds and does not move around during use as some reviews have stated. The only negative I see is that with my long legs and the height of this unit, my desk had to be raised up to an uncomfortable height in order not to smash my knees into the bottom of the desktop while using it. That unfortunately is the way it is and not any fault of the equipment. It was very fortunate I selected this particular make and model amongst the many other choices because it is a quality piece of equipment I can see still working even years from now. Don't hesitate to purchase one! ... show more
