Description

SIDE PULL ROPE HALTERS - By Southwestern Equine These side pull rope halters allow you to make training a young horse a positive beginning or enjoying your older horse without the discomfort from using a bit. When training your young horse it is so important to start with lateral and vertical flexion. The side pull will help any young colt get the flexion that every horse needs to have a great foundation. If you are unsure how a side pull can benefit your colt, please seek professional guidance before starting your colt. These currently only come in HORSE size. It should fit snug on either side of the nose and under the throat latch. The four knots across the nose band add pressure where needed for more control. The halter is made from a diamond braided rope. The rings attached to the side of the nose are nickel plated. MATERIAL - The halter is made from a diamond rope. SIDE PULL - The side pull rope halter allows for training a young horse or enjoying an older horse without the discomfort from using a bit FOUR KNOTS - Four knots across the nose band add pressure where needed for more control. RINGS - The rings attached to the side of the nose are nickel plated. SIZING - These side pulls come in Horse Size only. They should fit snug on either side of the nose and under the throat latch.

The halter -is- really big, as others have said. However, the knots are loose so that you can tighten them to adjust them smaller to fit your horse. I got this for my 15.1 mule. She has a larger head, and it was still a bit big on her - but after adjusting the knots, it was perfect.

Halter knots were pretty loose and not knotted tighltly when it came in. All I had to do was pull on it though and it tightened up. Halter rope was a little thicker than I prefer but I geuss it is alright. It fits well enough and that's what really matters

The size is perfect for my 15+ HH Quarter horse. I just didn't like the cheek strap being so close to his eye. So, I zip tied it a bit further down the nose piece. Now it's perfect. For the price, I'll wear it out.

Utterly poor design and the rope material is not appropriate for the application. The knot came completely undone, first time out, within a few minutes of riding rendering this halter completely useless as a side-pull apparatus as well as useless as a halter for a lead rope. Fortunately, I tried this device in a riding arena with a very sedate horse. When the side pull halter arrived the main knot for the lead rope was lose. I tightened it thoroughly but it did not seem I could keep it tight. The "rope" material seems very smooth and slick. I own several horses and look after several others so this is something I do everyday for many years. I was looking at this as a candidate for a less expensive alternative to the Mustang side-pull halter. I have several pics showing this (black-colored) side-pull halter with two Mustang side-pull halters in one pic. You can see that I have one of the Mustang side-pull halters configured with split reins attached which is used on a mixed breed draft and quarter horse, 17 hands high, 1,300 lbs. The second Mustang side-pull halter is set up for an Arabian 14.3 hands high and 960 lbs. These Mustang halters work very well between a very large sedate work horse and a smaller feisty competition horse requiring a firm grip. Then I show in a pic this black rope side-pull halter with an inexpensive rope halter I bought at Tractor Supply that has never given me any problem for the few years that I have owned it. That blue rope halter material is not slick like the black rope and may be critical for keeping the knot integrity. As the market has gone more on-line, less tack is available in feed stores (sadly, only place left in Waco is Rodeo Pawn for tack, sadles, etc) and places like Amazon are about all that's out there for trying tack. Bottom line, this Southwestern Equine side-pull rope halter is a potentially dangerous device. Please be careful and thoroughly test anything you buy in a riding arena with a helper before taking a new product on an equine activity. I learned my lesson, the Mustang side-pull is a very reliable and well manufactured product that is very durable and adjustable for many types of horses. It's made well but it is a draft size. I had to add several knots to shorten the crown. I also raised the knot where you clip the lead rope so it would fit snugly as it should. My mare is 16.1 hands and actually has a large head yet it was huge on her before I adjusted the halter. I only have pictures of her smiling for treats but you can see how it fits her now.
