  • Honestly fantastic
So I'll preface this by saying I've been an artist for nearly 30 years. I've used a lot of amazing materials and products.... And I would count these among them. I ordered these on a whim due to them being on sale and how many came in the order -180 is a good amount for the price so I chanced it. These exceeded expectations. They are as buttery and creamy as Prisma color while being as sturdy as Derwent and as bright as Faber Castell. My next art project I'm reaching for these! They sharpen well and blend even better. The range and price are fantastic. I honestly feel like I'm nitpicking giving a negative but the only critique I have is concerning the included color chart. The pencils themselves are in random order and the chart is mostly as well. There is some groupings of color but it's a bit chaotic. Also, the chart is double sided so it took me several minutes to realize that I was placing color swaths on both sides. I would have much preferred a more organized system with a gradual gradient of color in numerical order. Maybe they have a reason for this so I will remain more neutral given the quality. Another minor issue is that not all the colors, really only like 3-6, match what I'd imagine they look like. (I'm looking at you, peach! And weirdly, my magenta was labeled incorrectly which led to some confusion) Overall this is a very solid and high quality brand. I'd give it an easy 9.5 out of 10. If they fixed my very minor issues it's an easy 10. Regardless I will use this brand going forward if the quality and pricing remains the same. I'm going to reach for this before my more expensive and limited options. ... show more

  • Nice alternative to PrismaColor Premier colored pencils
**I updated this review to a 5 star because I had an issue with a few of the pencils having broken cores which caused a problem sharpening. I contacted the seller and they honored the warranty. So the product is good and so is the seller!** The pencils came in a very nice metal tin with plastic trays with slots for each pencil. These pencils are a decent option to Prismacolor especially if on a budget. The pencils sharpen to a fine point that didn't break as easily as Prismacolor pencils do. They blend and go on paper nicely. I compared the white on black paper to Prismacolor and Faber-Castell and as you can see they did a nice job. The colors do not match Prismacolor in most of the names and in the cases the names were the same and I tried to match them the colors are off. But as you can se by the color chart, there are so many Soucolors I'm pretty sure there is a color in the collection to meet pretty much any need. I drew a dog's eye in both Prismacolor (top) and SouColor. I did them quickly so not my best work, but the eyes both look decent for a quick sketch. I don't know about whether Soucolor is as lightfast as Prismacolor, but it's not something I normally worry about anyway. Overall, yes SouColor is a very nice set that would be great for a beginning artist as well as a serious artist on a budget. ... show more

  • Surprisingly awesome!
180 colored pencils for thirty dollars? (grabbed them when they were on sale) How good can they be? Surprise! Creamy smooth vibrant colors that are a pleasure to use! I'm using them for adult coloring books. While soft and creamy they are a bit less creamy than my Prisma's but they don't break as easily when you sharpen them and the lead is better centered, they have that nice finished end unlike the Prisma's, and they cost about 17 cents apiece compared to a dollar apiece! They blend well with each other. Looking at the finished page I can't tell the difference. Color names are easy to read, and a fully labeled do-it-yourself color chart is included. With so many pencils you can use up half of them and still have a full usable set of colors! Great buy, highly recommended! ... show more

  • Very smooth and buttery
I have had these pencils since August 2023, I have used them quite a bit. They sharpen well and blend beautifully. The cores are larger than most brands I have bought. They’re not lightfast, but the pigments are vibrant and they are very fun to use. Highly recommend for hobbyists or people that just want to have fun, not to sell their works. They’re a soft lay down feel. I currently own Kalour, brutfuner, huhuhero, prismacolor, starjoy gold, stayjoy 72, artxx, markart, crayola, prang, crazart, and shuttle art also. While all the others are good too in each their own way, these are also an affordable option for a buttery creamy pencil. If you had to ask me which of all are my favorite, I couldn’t answer as I guess it depends on the mood!(maybe brutfuner) They’re all good! But if I ever ran out of these I’d definitely buy another set. ... show more
