This is better than the original in that it blocks more light. It also softer and more comfortable. Have not had it long enough to experience it coming apart as others have. If you lose the original, be sure to double check the diopter adjustment for the viewfinder. The focus on mine was way off.

I'm a lefty and favor my left eye when peering through the eyepiece of my trusty Sony Alpha6. Need a rubber eyecup to extend it a few millimeters. I picked this up because the stock cup is rather small and let’s in too much light, this one is fairly large and I was concerned at first it would get in the way but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how good it fits around the eye and makes seeing the viewfinder so much easier especially in bright or dark light.
