I confess that for some months I have suspected my puppy was wicked, though I struggled to put my finger on just what caused this. On paper, he seemed about as good as any other puppy, with no sins outside of the puppy-in-training norms. But there was just something about him, some little attitude brimming just under the surface. I tried these chews on my two dogs: the aforementioned puppy and the older, good one. They're both bigger dogs so this size fit well for them. Immediately upon reception, the wicked puppy tries to take not only his chew but the treat of the good dog. I remedy this issue and send the dogs on their way. Soon after, the good dog comes whining to me. I suspect his chew has gone missing, and I will use this time to explain I noticed a certain distinction about his particular chew. Later on, the puppy enters the room. I swear, he checks the room for the good dog. Then, he pulls from a hiding place... the good dog's chew. I finally have my proof. So, puppy deception aside, these worked well as treats though, as one finds with most rawhide alternatives, they simply don't last as long and certainly fall more into the pure treat category. I couldn't find any ingredients that struck me as significantly "smart" but I actually liked the smell of them and the dogs certainly enjoyed them. ... show more

- 3 large chews in the traditional bone shape came in a resealable package. - Bones are firm, but soft enough I can push my fingernail into them. They’re solid, so I can’t break them in half just by bending them. - Our dogs absolutely love these treats and it took them awhile to finish them up. Dogs were happy and didn’t have any digestive issues after eating the bone. - No overpowering smell. These are good for the dog to eat when we are having our dinners. - We’ve had issues in the past with rawhide bones causing the dog to choke and spit up. We haven't experienced any issues like this with SmartBones chews. - Packaging does not list where these bones are made. A quick search of the web says they are manufactured in Vietnam, China, and Mexico. I wish this info was on their webpage and on the packaging. - For $16 for just 3 chews, the price is high for my budget. These seem like good and healthy chews. The dogs highly recommend them! I gave these to our foster dog who seems to have a sensitive tummy to anything "out of his norm". He loved it and gobbled it up in less than 15 minutes. He had super soft/diarrhea the next day after eating one of these, so I waited to try a week later and the same thing. However, as I said he has a sensitive stomach and my other dog loved these with no GI upset. They are tasty and a good alternative to rawhide, so I would recommend them for dogs that are good with new foods and treats. The caveat is for those dogs with sensitive digestion issues. I have a medium-sized dog that found these rawhide-free chews very tasty and entertaining. I consider them pretty safe for my dog and I really like that they contain some chicken and vegetables along with other ingredients and vitamins. The bones look appetizing and hold together throughout the chewing activities. The texture and size both are perfect for my dog's jaw exercise and teeth health. I supervised my dog's chewing most of the time and each SmartBone lasted my dog for almost a couple of days. Obviously, I'm basing my review on whether my dog likes them, which he does very much, but I'm also considering the price at which the SmartBones are being offered. The price is high when compared to dog treats of similar type, and I thing many dog-owners would consider the current price as above average. Overall, SmartBones seem like a healthier and more appealing alternative to rawhide bones and I would consider buying them as treats for special occasions due to their above-average price. ... show more
