The instructions on the product page aren't good, but it was easy enough to learn. Scrape off the black layer on a section of the rod, then hold the striker so the sharp edge of the longest side is perpendicular to the rod and tilted 45degrees. Push quickly and firmly for a spark every time. The biggest problem is there only 1 usable edge of the striker. The opposite edge is rounded over which makes it difficult to strike with. But considering the price you could just use the back of a knife instead. ... show more

Works well. I bought several to give as gifts. I also keep one in my vehicle and bug out bag. If used with the right tender it possible to start a fire on the first strike. Just needed in case of rain or bad weather, living in Florida you never know. Camping matches get lost, wet, damaged.. lighter torches break, can leak, run out of fuel.. best thing ever. Carry anywhere anytime
