  • Powerful Read for Any Mom
What I appreciated most about this book was that the goal isn't to be a better mom, do more, make more, or get more people to like you. There's no repeating shallow affirmations or using the power of imagination to make six figures. It's a real look at how you talk to yourself and treat yourself and why. Then it has you figure out a better way. The excersizes are powerful yet quick and easy and there's no homework. The messages have really stuck with me. "The struggle is real. Suffering is optional." "You are always a new parent." I appreciate the author's perspective as a mom and studier of moms. She draws from different studies as well as her own market research. I feel like it does a good job of reaching across a lot of aisles and being useful to all kinds of moms. I'm a first time SAHM of a one-year-old, but I can see a four time single mom who works outside the house getting just as much use. I was going to loan out my copy, but I know I'm going to want to read this every few years, so I'm gifting it to three other moms right now and I'm sure I'll gift more. ... show more

  • Life Changing
This book truly changed my life. Reading this showed me that I'm not alone; my struggles are ones that others go through as well. As women, wives, and mothers, we all have so much on our plates and it's important to know that we can do hard things but that we also need to listen to our souls. A quote used in this book that truly made me feel seen and felt waws this: "Sleep won't help if it's your soul that's tired." I wrote that on my bathroom mirror and it's a constant reminder to listen to my soul and know that I'm worth it and that I need to take care of me too. WE ARE WORTHY. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I loved it so much I gifted it to many of my mama friends for Christmas. ... show more

  • Thoughtful, Insightful and Helpful. Definitely Recommend
Where was this when I was a young momma who had absolutely no idea what I was doing? I was constantly feeling overwhelmed, scared, terrified of what others thought and lacking any sort of support...to be honest I was sad, lonely and most oftentimes depressed. I, of course, did not let people know this and acted like I was the tough mom/woman I really wasn't. Even though my kids are grown, 2 with kids of their own, the words in this book resonate loudly. Too often women pit ourselves against each other and against our inner self. Why? Why do we constantly have to try and outdo, outshine and "be better" when we need to hug, support, treat with kindness and LOVE each other? There is a part where the author has someone ask them how they are and for once she doesn't hide the truth and says, "I'm tired" to which the lady who asked said she was too and they hugged. Sometimes we need that connection. I wish I had the courage to do that when I badly needed it. That's strength. I love the format and layout of this book and the exercises that encourage you to not only hear what the author is saying but to participate in hearing yourself too. You can learn a lot if you stop to pay attention to your heart. This is definitely a book I will be sharing with my daughters. There is a lot here they can both benefit from. I sincerely appreciate the publisher for providing me a review copy. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone. ... show more

  • Not just for moms!
This book really pulls at your core to help you discover things that are holding you back and gives insight as to how to grow into a better person. When this book was initially selected as a book for our book club, I figured it was going to be geared towards motherhood and how to deal with your "mom issues"...but after reading this book, I am glad I did! I love how the book has a workbook feel to it and provides places to share your own thoughts. Our book club had the opportunity to meet with the author of this book, which was fascinating! As an avid reader and someone who loves to write, I enjoyed meeting with her and learning about her process for developing this book. So grateful I took the time to read it! It is one of those books that I will reference back to when needing a little pick me up! ... show more

  • A must read for all Moms!
It was as if Katherine was speaking right to me! I cried through some early parts in the book because of the strong connection. I could truly feel and relate to EVERY word on the pages. Katherine brought to light the struggles that moms are ashamed to share and talk about. She wants all women to start believing in themselves and know that they are not alone, they are in charge and guess what - - - they are not in competition with anyone else. I read/listen to many self help books but this one was different. This one was if Katherine was sitting on the couch next to you with a glass of wine, talking to you - mom to mom as if you'd been friends forever, without judgement, just honesty. I highly recommend this book to you and all your mom friends. ... show more

  • I feel seen
I soooo identified with this book and probably 99% of what Katherine talks about BUT I did not feel there was much actionable help. Overall I felt like I was getting a repeat of the classic "love yourself," "reduce negative self-talk," "if you love yourself you can better love others," etc etc I do want to say though, some mothers DO need to hear this! These moms are likely the first time moms or younger moms trying to understand their new life. ... show more

  • You’re not alone in the struggle...
Simply put, this book made me feel like I’m not alone in my struggle as a working mom. It was illuminating to think about the fact that your inner voice starts at such an early age. Remembering those early experiences that shaped how you see yourself today is vitally important to moving forward in a more positive direction. I loved the audiobook because I could hear the author’s personal truth in her own voice. Get this book and another to share. Start a movement and help those in your circle to know that there’s a difference between struggling and suffering. It’s up to you to choose how and when to SLAY your dragon of self-doubt! ... show more
