  • Terrific Security Shoes!
Size: 9.5 Color: Black/Charcoal
This might not be brief, but it will be efficient (and worth it)! 1. I bought/tried these shoes because, within six months, I have always ripped the front of my new balance shoes (for ~ a decade) requiring new ones. Hence I waited 1 year + to write this review... 2. These shoes are as comfortable as new balance and still look new! So no need to constantly replace them... Or baby them (I'm hard on shoes). As you can imagine the steel keeps the front of the shoe from ripping. So never again... 3. I run (with my dog -- fast) in these shoes, they are that comfortable. 4. Therefore they are perfect from a security perspective. Not only can no one stomp on your foot and do you harm, but imagine getting kicked with these suckers on! Also, you could run away if you needed to... 5. These shoes are so comfortable, I routinely think I'm wearing my slippers and thus fail to swap them when I get home. I've caught myself many times realizing I wore them all day. 6. I made a mistake when I bought my first pair. I knew I would get lazy and not change shoes to walk my dog, so I wanted to avoid smashing my toes against the steel plate during a run. If you're a runner of any distance, you know how much damage that can do to your feet. So I bought 10s instead of 9.5. Four months later I bought 9.5 because they clearly accounted for that in the design. And the 10s were too big. My feet were sliding around too much in those, even with pads in them. 7. They are roomy vertically so I doubled up some pads in them (the 9.5s) thus increasing their comfort. Yet they remain roomy/comfortable. I never bump up against the plate. 8. You can put HEAVY things on them, I often hang drywall, and you can set it on your shoes feeling no pressure on your feet while keeping the drywall off the ground. 9. They are a tad on the warm side. Terrific in winter, and even good for walking in snow, but in the summer, on a hot day my feet will sweat. Not wonderful. They breathe, but there are tradeoffs. IE It's hard to breathe through a steel plate. So I can't blame the manufacturer, I still love them. 10. The sole is not particularly flexible, it doesn't exactly conform/bend to your feet during a run, but I wouldn't think buyers of shoes like these would care. I got used to it, but it's worth mentioning in case others might (care). And that leads to my next point: 11. During a run, a sharp rock came up through the bottom of my first pair. I was shocked because that never happened before. And I suspect the ridgidness of the sole may have contributed. They weren't destroyed by that, but if you're walking around a construction site, be careful. Safe on top, not so sure about the bottom. In a year + that hasn't happened with this pair. They're not bad soles, but perhaps the only room for improvement. 12. I never thought someone stomping on my foot could do me harm. I thought that was ridiculous in movies until I dropped something heavy on my foot 2 years ago. Wow - ouch! So even if you don't do construction, these are a great upgrade to your personal security for that reason alone. 13. Even with the steel plate and sturdy construction, I don't find them all that heavy (anymore), but they are heavier and a bit clunky, runners will notice and it took some getting used to. Eventually my laziness, about changing shoes, won out and now I'm used to running in them. And I no longer view them as such a drag. For several months, I loathed running in them until one day I just forgot. 14. I don't consider them waterproof. Water resistant maybe, but don't sell your waders. Your feet will get wet if you submerge them. 15. If you want shoes that will last forever, look good without maintenance, increase your personal security, protect your feet, and that you will eventually find very comfortable, these are for you. ... show more

  • Great shoes
Size: 12 Wide Color: Black/Charcoal
Perfect fit and they are very comfortable. The design is great and good quality material and the memory foam will help with support my feet.

  • Good, solid, comfortable shoes but very, very heavy.
Size: 8.5 Wide Color: Black/Charcoal
I got tired of my normal athletic shoes going bad from the stress of daily use on the job, so I went looking under the search term "durable work shoes." (Looking via Duck and Swisscows and Qwant, mind you, not via Amazon's own search fields, which, inexplicably, continue to be left as almost 100% useless.) Inevitably, nothing that was classified as a.) a shoe and b.) "durable" was available without a steel toe, so I relented and bought these. For the record: The heaviest thing I'm likely to drop on my feet is a disk of Lanthanum/Telluride alloy (or maybe Silicon/Germanium,) that's roughly the size, shape and weight of a U.S. Nickel, so I'm not really in need of steel-toed shoes. But if you want "durable," apparently you have to get the Medieval Class toe box, so I just bought them. I don't know if it's just the steel toe or a combination of that and the heavier-duty rubber and upper material, but these shoes are seriously heavy. Not a big problem if you like the added exercise, but it would be great if shoe manufacturers would offer a version of the exact same work shoe with all of the exact same materials, but without the mëtal hardware. But I knew that going in so... These are excellent shoes despite the weight. I have wide feet and they're available in EE width (if they hadn't been I simply would not have bought them, because "you can't be cool if your feet are uptight," as the old Hush Puppies ad used to say.) They're built like tanks but are perfectly comfortable nonetheless, and I'm on my feet roughly 80% of every nine-hour workday. I got my normal size and width, and even with a pair of podiatrist-prescribed orthotic inserts and Odor-Eater pads, they fit perfectly. When I put them on in the morning the toe areas do feel tight, but the inserts settle within minutes and they're a perfect fit thereafter. So be aware that if you do not use any kind of insert these might be a little roomy. The laces are also heavy-duty and the eyelets for them allow you to tighten them without messing with the loop-by-loop finger-pull thing - but neither do they let loose too easily - all of which I like lots. Given the excellent price, durability and fit, I'm really happy that I picked these. Time will tell how well they'll hold up, but I've been wearing them on the job for two months and they still look and feel brand-new. I'm on hands and knees and crawling into the guts of systems and lab equipment frequently, and though the inevitable dirt is there, I don't even see so much as a scuff on the outer surfaces, anywhere. Good shoes, if seriously heavy in the weight class. ... show more

  • It's like walking on clouds
Size: 10 Wide Color: Black/Charcoal
They fit exceptionally well, especially the width in the wides. I'm on my feet 8-10 hours a day and these are extremely comfortable. That memory foam sole is great. I'm actually surprised at how well it lasted. Unfortunately, the rest of the shoe doesn't hold up very well. My brother and I are both mechanics, we both bought pairs, and both lasted about a year before they started showing bad wear and about another 6 months before they needed replaced. I'm still giving them 5 stars though. For the price, I don't mind getting a new pair every year or so. I've worn plenty of high end, expensive boots. I've gone through several pairs of that wing brand in the last 20 years. Honest truth? These won't last nearly as long, but they are much, much more comfortable. ... show more
