I don't do much siding, but this little tool was Instrumental in hanging concrete siding. My buddy Isn't much of a craftsman, but with these hangers, a concrete blade, and my siding nail gun, he wen't to town.

I got these through the Vine program as I have been installing some cedar clapboard. Though these were originally designed for cement board siding, they work just as well on wood and working with 12' & 16' boards by myself was proving to be a pain in the neck. The first time I saw this product designed for siding installation was about 10 years ago when it was first released. I thought it was a great concept but as I didn't have any reason to purchase them, and the fact they were about $80, didn't buy them. I saw these on Vine and they look nearly identical to the original, so much so that I thought it might be the same product until I did a little searching and found this is a copy (almost to a tee). The installation tool worked great and was a big time saver. A few reviewers complained that when you tighten the retaining lever that it forced the top of tool away from the wall which could result in the board you are installing (top) sliding off the lip of the tool and sliding down with the potential of knocking the tool off the lower board and having everything come crashing down. Since wood clapboards aren't that heavy the likely hood of this happening isn't that much of a concern however if used with Hardy board (cement siding) this could become an issue. Because this was pointed out I was aware of the issue and made certain that I didn't over tighten the lever. As a result I never experienced this problem however the manufacturer could easily resolve this if they made the top lip stick out about a 1/4" further. This way if the tool was clamped down tighter than needed, the top lip would still catch the bottom of the top board you are installing and the user wouldn't have to worry about how tightly the tool was clamped to the bottom board. Since I didn't have much siding to put up I just clamped the tool tight enough to hold it to the bottom board but if I were installing a lot of siding I would have modified the tool and attached a couple of "L" shaped pieces of metal to the side of the tool at the top lip so that they stuck out further than the existing lip making it impossible for the board to slide off. A much easier solution would be if the manufacturer just molded the top piece differently so that the top lip extended out further but I doubt this will happen. That said, even with this flaw, the tool helped me significantly and made the siding installation much quicker as it spaced each board perfectly and kept them level (as long as the first installed board is level). Just be aware that as the locking lever is moved upward tightening the clamp, the top of the tool is being pushed outward with the potential of the board that is being installed slipping off the tool. ... show more

I am a general contractor. I booked a fiber cement siding job and purchased the “Kathleen” siding tool only to instantly figure out that they don’t work like the videos or as they claim. When tightening the handle it pulled away opening up a space wider than the siding therefore the siding falls in getting wedged/ damaged. There is a disclaimer that says don’t pull the knob up all the way to ensure it won’t pull away. Lol then the tool can slip out and if you’re on a height, this creates a serious liability. I really wish people would get together and sue companies that produce garbage like this. And damn you Amazon for not doing your homework and wasting many people’s time. Again this tool is dangerous and creates and false sense of security. Not fully tightening the handle as you instruct leads to is slipping and changing reveals. You’ve been told now do something about it or i will continue to complain. ... show more
