Description

The big news for Deore XT this year is its new M8000 11-speed drivetrain. This, of course, isn't the only upgrade for the most trusted drivetrain in cycling. The new derailleur also boasts an easy-to-adjust chain stabilizer and a new Shadow design with optimized slant for more stable positions in any gear. Shimano claims that shifting requires 20% less effort with the new design, and less is good.If you're still using traditional hanger, the RD-M8000 comes with a link installed so it's backward-compatible. The direct mount, however, eliminates the need for the link, effectively reducing flex, wear, and weight -- all good things to mountain bikers. On compatible frames, the system also allows easier wheel changes with thru axles. Another big change is the stabilizer switch trickled down from XTR and Saint derailleurs. When engaged, this switch helps to eliminate chain slap and dropped chains by increasing spring tension. This is a valuable option for suspension systems that require chainstays and pivots located close to the rear derailleur. The RD-M8000 retains all the last models improvements, including the direct cable path. Your shift housing can enter the stop on the derailleur without the traditional loop of excess housing that often was the victim of contamination and a source of poor performance.Shimano uses tried- and-true aluminum components in the XT derailleurs. All of the knuckles, linkage plates, and cage sides are made from it. So while it may lack the wow factor of the carbon fiber-laden XTR Shadow, it's more affordable, and if you've been running XT derailleurs as long as we have, you'll know that you'll get plenty of mileage out of it.

  • Nice Clean Shifts
Color: Black Size: 11 Speed
My bike came with an 11 speed SLX derailleur and after a couple years of service it lost a fight with a rock and needed to be retired. I was going to just grab another SLX but couldn't find any in stock so I spent a few extra bucks for the XT. I also ordered a new derailleur hangar from my bike manufacturer so that everything would be as straight as possible again. Installation was straightforward. A few adjustments with the limit screws and the b-screw so that it would clear my 46 tooth cog (e*thirteen TRS 9-46 cassette) and all was well. Shifts are clean and precise and no dropped chains or anything yet. Not sure if I would recommend it over the SLX unless you really want to be able to adjust the clutch on the fly, but still it's not much more expensive so why not just go with it? ... show more

  • Broke twice within 5 months
Color: One Color Size: Long Cage
I have these on two different bikes. The first time, that was my fault. I had an 11-52t cassette, was in 1st or 2nd gear, tried to force the wheel off with the chain in its normal position (clutch off), and the cage broke. If you have an older 10x135mm spacing and a large cassette, take the chain off the chainring first before trying to remove the wheel. Other bike (12x142), this rear derailleur worked great for about the first 400 miles...then the clutch lever just fell off, I have no idea how, didn't crash or anything. Then...I was in a smaller 26t chainring, upshifted to the top 50t gear, heard a weird grinding sound. Top of hill, manually switched to large 34t chainring to go back down. Chain will not stay on big chainring anymore, wants to jump to the smaller one, like the cage got bent or something. I'm assuming the cage went so far back that the chain touched itself and got caught on something around one of the pulleys and bent something internal. Moral of the story: with this derailleur, you can force the cage forward with the clutch off and it's OK, but DO NOT accidentally force the cage backwards when it's not supposed to do that. Then it will break, even if the clutch is off. Otherwise it's OK, not great, obviously a lot better than something like a 7-speed Tourney. But my $40 9-speed Deore has way more miles on it and zero problems on a 3rd bike. Just sayin'... ... show more

  • Excellent Derailleur, But . . .
Color: One Color Size: Long Cage
This is the best rear derailleur I have ever used. I have this derailleur on my fatbike, mountain bike, and even my road bike. But Shimano has got to get their act together and make a derailleur that will work for a road bike to be used as a 1x that can accommodate at least a 11x40 cassette. I'm not as experienced using SRAM components, but they are much further ahead when it comes to 1x gearing components. ... show more

  • Perfection!
Color: Black Size: 11 Speed
Upgraded 2x9 to 1x11. It was SO easy to install and set up. Solid and precise! It is slightly harder to downshift with the clutch on, but very slightly. I am no bike guru, but take your time, set your high/low limits, leave a turn and a half at the shifter adjuster before you put the cable on. Shift into high gear, lock the cable down and RIDE IT! Make 1/4turn adjustments at the shifter on the fly. 15min... DONE! ... show more

  • its shimano xt
Color: Black Size: 11 Speed
not the latest, but i didnt want more gears anyway so for what i need it came in at a value price. xt is as good as it gets for me. xtr is way more money and the weight is small difference. you will need the bar mount shifter (careful as there are two types, ones that mount to shimano brakes , and one that dont and ofcouse xt 11 sp cassette that match for best performance, if you need to save money go for the SLX 11 speeds cassette, as it is a great replacement ... show more

Color: Black Size: 11 Speed
I’m running this in a 1x11 setup with an 11-46 cassette and it’s been flawless for me so far. Shifts are quick and smooth and I’ve had no issues with the chain dropping. HUGE improvement over the Ultegra it replaced on my bike.
