I hesitated to buy this because of negative reviews, but I'm so glad I did. I think people have become used to polyester fleece and it's lightweight fluffiness that comes out of the dryer like a cloud. This is not that blanket. This throw is in a different class altogether. Yes, it comes in a zippered and snapped plastic storage bag. If you don't like plastic you can recycle it and store the blanket in another manner. The plastic odor others complained of disappeared after 30 minutes. The blanket was delivered on my porch on a 90 degree day so the odor was understandable. I was surprised by the silky texture upon first touch. It's certainly not heavy, as others said. Perhaps they didn't fully unfold it and were unknowingly holdng a double layer. The color was just as depicted. While the fringes aren't knotted, they are tightly twisted and tidy. I would think that knotting the fringes would add an awkward clumsiness to the drape of the blanket. The edges are finished perfectly and neatly with no hanging threads. I haven't washed it but when I do I'll use the gentle setting in cold water on a lower spin speed. I'll probably lay it out on a large sweater dryer or drape it over the shower rod and turn it over after a few hours to dry on both sides. If it sounds like too much trouble, this probably isn't the throw for you. I grew up with 2 sisters. We hand-washed our hosiery and sweaters in Woolite and used the washer just for the low spin cycle. After this we blocked them neatly on bath towels and turned them a few times til dry. This was common practice before the days of wash-and-wear clothing. Welcome to the good old days, lol. This may not be a quick washer-to-dryer item, but I feel it's worth a little extra trouble. I've had a Sferra throw blanket in a pale gold for many years - it is super-soft and warm, and I love it! I bought this for another room and washed it before I used it, but I think it will take a couple of more washes to get it as soft as my old one (which still looks great, BTW!). This is a nice cotton throw, except that when it arrived at our house, my husband (who opened the box) said "Uh, this thing smells really strong." Strong scents tend to bother me. The scent of this throw reminded me of potpourri, not unpleasant, just persistent. To get rid of the smell, I threw it in the wash immediately with some other orange/red items (I bought the color "Paprika," and it's lovely). After the first wash, the whole laundry room smelled like the blanket, as did the rest of my laundry. After a second wash, the smell was almost gone, but not quite. That being said, the throw did survive two washes and some time in the dryer. Again, the smell isn't bad, some people might even like it, I just don't like strong scents. I have no idea why it came like this, I've never run into a scented throw before, but the laundry seems to have helped a lot. I do like the throw, it is a thick, somewhat soft cotton that held up well to my attempts to rid it of the potpourri scent. It'll work for our purposes, and it's hard to find nice all-cotton throws in this particular colorway. ... show more

Sferra has been my favorite brand for linens for over 20 years. I make a point of buying that brand specifically. You pay more for the quality but as the saying goes, “you get what you pay for”. Imagine my surprise when I found these magnificent throws on Amazon. The blanket comes in a plastic zippered bag which leaves a temporary plastic smell. Don’t worry, it won’t last long. I ordered the color mushroom in hopes that it would work with my new living room furniture. Perfection! Go ahead, spring for the extra cost up front.
