I could not for the life of me find reviews that talk about operating a smart bulb with a wall switch. Now that I’ve tested this one, I can do it. I have a lamp in my TV room controlled by a wall switch. I’m fine with that and want to keep it that way. That is, until I get comfortable on the couch with the cat sitting in my lap. I don’t want to have to get up and turn it off. That is where the Sengled bulb and the echo come in: “Alexa, Light 1 Off”. When I’m ready to leave the room I say “Alexa, Light 1 On”, and my way out of the formerly dark room is lit. Then, when I leave the room, I use the WALL switch to turn off the light as I’ve been used to doing for years. The next time I go to the room, I turn the light on with the WALL switch and it comes ON, which is what I wanted. Even better, it comes on at the brightness level it was last set for. I chose the 100W equivalent bulb which I normally run at about 50%. I get the same light level as the old bulb, but I have the option for more light when I need it (such as when cleaning). “Alexa, Light 1 to 100%”. I use that a lot. To be clear, this is the Bluetooth light that works only with Alexa. I’m okay with that as I’ve been an Echo user for a while now, and I’m already signed up. All of the other smart bulbs I considered need some app downloaded, an account set up, and linking the app to Amazon. I need that like a hole in the head. I absolutely love that this bulb can be set up without a third-party app. That is worth a few extra bucks to me. I was up and running in a couple of minutes. The setup isn’t totally glitch-free (largely due to the Alexa app) and Alexa sometimes says the light isn’t responding (even when it does). I can overlook that because it works anyway. I am so pleased, I bought additional 100W equivalent bulbs. One is over the dining table where I like it to be dim most of the time. It is great to be able to get more light on demand without using dimmer switches (which I don’t have). Finally, the Echo can do something of value other than play music. ... show more

These bulbs work great for the first few months, then they seem to lose the ability to connect. I have to basically reset them every couple of months, they work fine but it’s inconvenient to have to restart them so often.

Changing my review. These are ALWAYS unresponsive, so Alexa doesn’t turn them on. It claims problems with the internet but there are no issues with the internet, because I checked every time. Such a waste of time. I just installed these today. Easiest thing EVER! Seriously. I just told Alexa to find new devices and boom. She found it, connected and done. In seconds. Lightbulb blasted about a week before disconnecting from my Alexa. By that time, I didn’t have the box still and they put a tiny QR code with a numerical code. Do identify the item in your app, but the QR code is so small and the light has to be on in order for it to be set up so it was impossible to even get a good angle for the QR code and even taking the product out with just your phone. It was so small my phone was unable to scan it had to put in the 12 numerical code several times often having to take my lamp apart to re-input the numbers also all my devices in my house are connected on the same network, but this light bulb must be on a 2.4 network so if that has a different network name then other devices in your household, it will not work well with other devices or will disconnect on its own randomly. Also, I found this product confusing because it has two brands named on it so I downloaded both brands apps trying to figure out which one worked with Alexa and which one would connect. Learn from my mistakes and follow the instructions on here rather than the ones on the box when you get it. ... show more
