The Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Trekking and Travel Umbrella provides protection from rain and sun. Made from waterproof, tear-resistant 30D siliconized CORDURA nylon, it has a UPF rating of 50+. Carries comfortable with a rubberized handle, and has a telescoping 23-inch aircraft-grade aluminum shaft. Solid brass rivets provide frame strength. The large canopy measures 38 inches. Collapses to 9.5 inches and weighs 8.5 ounces. The Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Trekking and Travel Umbrella is compact and lightweight, and includes an Ultra-Sil storage sleeve. Sea to Summit products are guaranteed against defects in materials or workmanship for the lifetime of the product.

My particular item might have suffered from an apparent design flaw more than the others mentioned here - but when simply opening the umbrella, the structure was collapsed. I had to physically move the structure so that it was fully expanded. The lightest of wind under the umbrella would cause it to partially collapse. This nonsense of manually adjusting the structure eventually led to a tear in the fabric. I don't understand how in 2020 humankind hasn't figured out how to construct a durable, actually working light weight compact umbrella. I was hoping that the expensive price tag (relatively speaking) signaled that this was finally it - but not even close. This sort of design flaw makes this, sorry to say, a total scam. ... show more

This is slightly smaller and lighter than a typical folding umbrella but feels bulky and heavy for trekking. This model is definitely more than 8 oz, probably closer to 12 oz. To me this makes it a questionable choice for actual trekking when other options are available in the 5-6 oz range with only slightly less coverage. Build quality is good but I can't speak to the longevity since I will be returning the item. If you want an umbrella to keep with you all the time (for emergencies) I would suggest a product with "U.L." in the title (for ultra-light). For multi-day treks, every ounce counts! ... show more

After using this umbrella for two months in India, I have come to the conclusion that this umbrella design needs revamping or my sample is defective. Unfortunately, it is too late to send it back. The unit is much more bulky and heavy than anticipated. Biggest concern is that the canopy is never tight, and when wet, rather loose. As a result, since there is almost no tension across the fabric, the canopy will deform and invert with little wind. With a moderate wind, it is basically useless as it will invert quickly thus soaking its user. Rain with little wind, the umbrella actually works well but quickly becomes useless when windy. ... show more

The description says this is 8.5 ounces but it is actually 10 ounces. The material has a brittle feel that makes a loud crunching sound when touched. When you open the umbrella you have to bend the top to push it into place. I purchased two and both were the same. Nice packaging though.
