    • Questionable quality - bought 2, neither was capable of making mobile calls
Samsung seems to be offloading their quality control onto it customers. The first phone was not able to receive calls, although I could make calls. All incoming calls went straight to voicemail. After about 10 hours of troubleshooting (Samsung, T-Mobile, Samsung authorized walk-in clinic) it was decided the motherboard was probably faulty. OK. Sometimes, electronic equipment leaves the factory with a fault. That said, I ordered another A53, this time the US version, and the second phone could not make or receive calls. After about another 5 hours of hassle, I've shipped the 2nd phone to Samsung for repair and returned the first to Amazon for refund. I don't want to buy a 3rd phone and find it's also broken, or spend more time shopping for an alternative. My hope is to get a working phone back from Samsung service. Other than not actually working as a phone, I like the A53. Camera seems top notch. Great macro photos. Screen is bright. The One UI 4.1 user interface is not great, but it's pretty good. For some reason, it hides certain apps from the 'All Apps' pages, making it really annoying to launch some apps. Without a case, the A53 is as slippery as an ice cube, but I use a case. It comes with a ton of Samsung bloatware, and that really sucks. It isn't that these apps soak up memory, because there is plenty. The issue is it took a long while to get most of the annoying crap to stop popping up. The description notes this A53 is the 'International' version, but I either missed that entirely or didn't grasp the significance. It also notes it works in the US. While this phone provides access to the following US 5G bands: 2, 5, 41, 66, 77, 78, it does not provide access to these US 5G bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 28, 40, 41, 66. The US version of the phone provides access to ALL 5G bands listed above: 2, 5, 41, 66, 77, 78 and 1, 3, 7, 8, 28, 40, 41, 66. I originally thought my connection problems were due to the difference in bands. Now I understand the phone was faulty. I don't know how the bands will affect different carriers. ... show more

When I "cut the cord" on my landline, I looked for a reliable replacement. I'm still learning about its many features and "bending it to my will," but I think it's a fine phone. I'd like the volume higher (yes, I've turned it to high). I have excellent hearing, but need to turn on speaker phone to hear clearly. Also, some actions require simultaneously pressing two side buttons and a spot on the phone. I put a case on the phone and find the buttons are now more difficult to press, so these multiple button procedures are more difficult than they should be. But, in general, I'm happy! ... show more

The phone seems fine but I didn't receive the charging cube, and was told that I couldn't just get the missing charger, I'd have to return the cellphone itself and reorder it. Wasn't about to do that, so ordered and paid for another charger. Interesting policy.

Nice phone, Samsung quality..... but, this is actually a replacement for my old 4G Samsung A51 where I had installed 2 sim cards plus a memory card. Despite what it's advertised, on this phone you have to choose either 2 sims, or a sim and a memory card. But not the three at once, very disappointing since i was looking for the threr extras at once, as i did on my old A51 ... show more

This dual SIM phone can't use two SIM card while using an SD card. This is a stupid design. You have to sacrifice the secondary SIM card to have an SD card in use or sacrifice the SD card to us the second SIM. Whoever came up with this design dropped the ball big time.

I was concerned after reading some negative reviews that suggested the phone didn’t work in the US, the reviews said it couldn’t receive calls and everything went into voicemail. The first thing I did was called the phone - I use Ultra Mobile, which is the T-Mobile network - it worked then after doing one update to the phone, it went into voicemail. I checked for any more updates and there was another to the system. After doing this the phone worked fine for sending and receiving calls and text. I called England no problem, the calls are clear. Phone is quick and for the price gives me everything I need in a phone, looks good and feels good. Clear bright screen even in sunlight. Camera is a bit grainy when zooming in on a photo, but I haven’t experimented with it enough yet. All in all great phone……I’ll revisit the reviews in say 3 months after use. ... show more
