I almost didn't buy this mic stand because of ultra-light being in the name, but this is a pretty solid mic stand. It has plastic hardware, but I won't be adjusting this one on a regular basis, so it should hold up just fine. We use it in our practice space to hold dynamic vocal mics. I don't know how it well it will hold up to a heavy condenser, but it will hold your sm57s and 58s no problem. Samson makes good stands, and even though this, I believe, is their bottom of the line stand, it's pretty decent. Would recommend! ... show more

    • Nice piece of gear but NOT 1 pound.
I purchased this item partly on the basis of the claim in Product information that it only weighs one pound. I should've judged by the shipping weight: this mic stand weighs five pounds. It's a nicely put together, thoroughly adjustable, functional and intuitive five pound mic stand.

Weighs 4 pounds 8 oz assembled. Tripod leg base folds in for storage as well as the boom arm. 0ther than the the **not included mic holder, all is pre assembled. The boom arm is weighted on one end to counter balance the mic on the other end. If I needed another, I'd buy it again. So far on first "out of box inspection" it seems to be made well for the price (under $20 at the time of purchase). ... show more

...the bottom screw invariably wears out and the stand becomes useless. They should sell replacement parts for those screws!

    • Works good, but not for my intentions.
A pretty good stand for microphones, but if you intend to buy this (like I did) for a webcam or something similar, you are making a big mistake as the screw at the end moves easily.
