We finally got the chance to work on our fences and gates over the holidays, so the Samamixx Fence Post Bracket was installed on an interior fence post. We had 2 very big dogs (160 lb & 120 lb) who didn’t like closed fence gates and did their best to break free while we did our best to keep them behind at least one gate. That means we had 2 sets of gates on both sides of the house. For the most part it was a draw when we had to say our final goodbyes. When I learned the fence I really want would cost $40K, we decided that some repairs would be a much better idea. Since we had some loose posts, we ordered this bracket. With our son’s assistance, the T shaped bracket was pounded into the ground after we determined the edge of the concrete footing. The surface of the T bracket deformed when it was pounded into the ground. I’m not sure if our ground is just so hard it was inevitable, or if this product needs work. At the end of the day, it worked albeit with some difficulties. The L bracket was easy to secure by installing the hardware into the post. I drilled some pilot holes to make it easier. Attaching the L bracket to the T bracket was a challenge. The instructions show holes on the top of the T bracket but those are not actually drilled. Once the L bracket is installed, you’ll have to use the “drill tail screws” to affix the L to the T by drilling thru the metal top of the T bracket. I sheered off 2 bolt heads when I didn’t ease up when the T bracket was pierced. At the end of the day, this bracket does its job but the result isn’t pretty. It’s on an interior fence/gate post by our pool equipment so beauty isn’t a requirement. I’m a fan because of the result, but not by the engineering/design. I've used some fence post repair kits before, this one is okay but not great. I had a leaning post on my 4-ft picket fence that I wanted to fix and didn't want to spend the time digging out the old concrete and putting in a new fence post. This kit has pretty much what you need to do this kind of repair. It even includes two sockets for the included lag screws and self-tapping screws. The problem with this kit is that the piece that goes into the ground isn't sturdy enough to hold a 6 ft fence. It does okay on my 4 foot picket fence but on a higher fence it just would wobble around too much. As I was installing it one of the self-tapping screws stripped out awfully easily and I didn't feel very confident that the others would hold very well so I welded the two pieces together. An additional problem was I had to chip away a bunch of the concrete around the post so that I could pound the ground stake in close enough to attach to the part that attaches to the fence post. The kit is made with 12 gauge steel, a little over 2 mm thick. I think a three or four millimeter thick stake a little longer would make the kit a lot sturdier. Also perhaps the self-tapping screws which are indeed convenient but not very sturdy should be beefed up a bit. Borderline satisfactory, usable but with some difficulty.     • Sturdy, Best for Smaller Fences, Concrete May Get in the Way

We have had several very strong storms recently, and the last one literally whipped one section of our wood fence almost to the ground and tore the two sections apart. Thankfully, I have a permanent gazebo anchored on one side near where it failed, and a large shed anchored on the other side, so it only damaged this one part of the fence, which is 6 foot tall. The fence was there when we bought the house many years ago, and apparently the posts were not concreted in, so I'm surprised the rest of them have lasted as long as they have. Granted our ground is like solid rock, which can also make it hard to put a stake in like this one used with the bracket. But this post repair kit is very heavy duty, yet possibly not long enough or strong enough for some taller heavier fences like ours. I was still able to use it fairly well, only because there was no concrete so I could install it close up against one of the posts. I also put one super long board across 3 sections of my fence to link them all together until I am able to do a proper repair, which helped stabilize the section, as well. I think this post repair bracket is generally good quality and would work for most small and medium fences or posts, and possibly some taller ones so long as they are not too heavy and you can get flush up against the post. ... show more
