    • Best Shoes I've Ever Owned.
Without a doubt or the least exaggeration, these are the best shoes I've ever owned. Update: It's been months now and these are still the best shoes I have ever owned. Downside: The Insoles for mine were faulty. The left insole is fine. The right insole must have come "wrinkled" because it is absolutely painful to walk on. It is also very obviously wrinkled. This isn't a problem when they are dry. You'd just notice some texturing. When wet, however, it is another matter. Salomon. Please sell the insoles! It is a real issue. Update II: I decided to do a serious test to see just what is up with these insoles. Here's the test: 1. I walk 0.3 miles. 2. The elevation change is a mild 128 feet. 39.0144 meters. 3. I repeat this walk up and then down 5 times. 4. The walk is a total of roughly 600 steps. 5. The heat is 91 F in the shade ( 32 C) and 110 F (43.3 C) sustained exposure to the sunlight. 6. It's anywhere between 55% humidity to 63% humidity without any further deviation for weeks now. Results: After 1.2 miles (1.931) kilometers the "wrinkle" gets wet from sweat and/or rain and the insole deforms at the arch of the foot nearest the ball and big toe. - this is consistent after 3 days of testing. The insole without the wrinkle produces no issues. Walking with the insoles is possible so long as the climate remains dry and the humidity very low. In other words, the issue wouldn't likely exist in a climate like Arizona, but would be a real problem in a tropical or temperate region where the humidity is consistently higher. I am, unfortunately, in such a climate. Walking without the insoles is also possible, but so far as I have found REPLACING THEM is not possible. If there is a way to do this Salomon has gone out of their way to mask it with a fanciful website full of pretty images that never gets to the point... "want insole, buy where?". Thank you. In all else, the shoes are very good. The arch support is simply the best. I've tried most of the less expensive brands up to Keens. Keens make good sandals, but I wouldn't even call their other shoes footware compared to these. Another thing with the insole... you can walk without it, but don't try replacing it other insoles. It doesn't work. These shoes are designed to support your feet, not have your feet supported. It's a very big difference in functionality. If you want to experience a lot of unnecessary pain and anguish though, do try other insoles. I speak from experience. I've about about 14 different kinds trying to replace these so far. The pain is exquisite, but none of them work like the ortholite. It's really irritating... perfect shoe... minor issue... but no solution. :/ If it's any consolation I love the shoes so much I bought a second pair as I'm sure I'll burn through these eventually and it takes quite awhile to actually get a pair once you order. ... show more

Will start by saying this is my second pair, not because they wore out, but because they run small for me. I am a size 11 and have been forever. Ordered an 11 and went for a long hike. My feet did not blister anywhere but did lose two toenails. Love the shoes, great traction and can go from water to dirt, sand or rock. Easy clean-up. Got this second pair and have hiked maybe 20 miles and no issues, great fil. ... show more

This is the third pair I've bought of these shoes, or similar model. The first pair is now my pair I use to trek through the river and get really dirty. I run them through the washer and let them dry. The traction on slippery surfaces is the best I've ever had. They are very comfortable on long runs and hikes, with or without socks. Awesome show with great grip. Lacing system keeps your foot in place and out of the front of the toe box when going down steep inclines. Well, the lacing system is good. I would prefer some sort of boa laces to better deal with the extra laces which you have to shove down the front of your shoe tongue. ... show more

The photographs in this review are enhanced to show the attention to detail paid during the vulcanizing. I ordered a size 12.5 and it is a bit on the tight side. I won't demerit the shoe because I am 6'4" and weigh about 240. but the shoe may not be as small, as the wearer is large. Soloman is a product I've always wanted to own and the Cross 5's were a good choice. Super aggressive tread pattern and extreme attention to detail is paid to the sole adhesion to the upper. I've owned all of the major brands associated with outdoors, trekking, survival, and this shoe makes those pale in comparison. There isn't any need for me to go on at length about the Cross 5, because anyone considering this purchase is most likely as experienced, if not more so than I am, and the photographs speak for themselves. This is not a cold weather shoe. I wouldn't hesitate to wear them river trekking as they would appear to drain easily. The insole is a little thin, but it's supported by a firm and cushioned base. European designers usually keep the idea of "form following function" at the forefront of a design. The Cross 5 has very few competitors. The Cross 5 is an excellent example of management keeping their noses out of the design process. These sneakers or shoes are hands down yhe best light weight tactical shoe I've worn. And in ruff terrain they have been great so far. I recommend these to anyone who likes to hike go camping and anything out doors. Reccomend to Law enforcement and my Military brothers and sisters. I went to PR to shoot and they were perfect. I were nothing else. First time I tried these I was sold. Great support and a good arch. They have a heavy trail tread. It doesn’t bother me for every day use, but my boyfriend only likes them when on the trails.
